PREPARATIONS BEFORE PRODUCT MAKING
All products to be made in a neat and clean place that is
well ventilated and illuminated.
Must wear gloves, hair cap and apron.
Label all raw drugs and equipment and store it safely
and out of reach of children.
Avoid all distraction including children and pets.
A cotton cloth must be kept ready while preparing
products
EQUIPMENTS NEEDED
WEIGHING MACHINE
A good quality weighing machine is mandatory
Preferably that can weigh small weights too
MEASURING JARS
Accurate measuring jars that can measure liquids and
oils are needed
STOVE
Most of preparations require heating and gas stove is
the best option
Classical preparations may require heating for longer
duration. In that case, firewood may be the economical
option.
VESSELS
High quality stainless steel vessels are required for
measuring and heating during product making
RAW DRUGS
Ensure the quality and authenticity of the raw drugs
Make sure raw drugs used are clean and devoid of
contamination of any sort
Commonly used raw materials for cosmetic product
preparation are the following
PACKAGING
Visual appeal is very much needed for cosmetic
products. Hence finished products are to be packed and
presented in attractive bottles
High quality pet bottles, acrylic bottles or glasswares
may be opted
Certain products like serum may be damaged by
sunlight. In such cases use of coloured bottles may be
required
KAJAL
Preparation of Black Ash
Swarasa of Tulasi, Sahadevi, Bhringaraja, Dronapushpi is
taken
A clean cotton cloth is soaked in the swarasa and dried
in shade for 7 days
This cloth is made into a wick and burned after soaking
in castor oil or ghee.
The black fume that is emitted is collected by keeping a
vessel over the burning flame.
After burning completely, carefully collect the black ash
that is seen coated beneath the vessel.
1. Simple kajal
Ingredients
Black Ash 0.25 gm
Ghee/Castor Oil QS
Camphor (optional) small pinch
Preparation
Mix the above ingredients well
2. Ayurvedic kajal
Ingredients
Ghee 10 gm
Eranda thailam 10 gm
Bees wax 3.5 – 4 gm
Black Ash 1.25 gm
Vitamin E (optional) 1 - 2 drop
Preparation
Melt all the ingredients
Mix them well
Gently pour into mould and let to cool
SOAPS (MELT & POUR)
Ingredients
Soap base 100 gm
Powder 3 gm
Liquid 10 ml
Oil 5 ml
Colour QS
Fragrance QS
Procedure
Take the soap base in a vessel
Heat it in a double boiling apparatus till it melts
completely
Add the powder, oil or liquid as per measurement
Add colour and fragrance respectively as required
Pour the molten soap base in silicon mould
Rubbing alcohol is sprayed over it to avoid air bubbles in
the soap
Let it cool for 40 – 60 minutes
Remove the soap bars gently from the mould and pack
them properly
Cling wrap may be used to pack the soap but make sure
it is tightly packed to avoid moisture.

2. Kashayam soap (Melt & Pour)
Soap base 100 gm
Kashayam 10 ml
Perfume QS
3. Honey soap (Melt & Pour)
Soap base 100 gm
Honey 5 - 10 ml
Perfume QS
Chocolate colour QS
Difference in quantity is due to the thicker consistency of
honey
4. Charcoal soap
Soap base 100 gm
Activated charcoal Powder 3 gm
Perfume QS
CREAMS
Moisturizing cream
Ingredients
Shea butter 30 gm
Cocoa butter 30 gm
Olive oil 20 ml
Almond oil 20 ml
Coconut Oil 20 ml
Bees Wax 15 gm
Vitamin E 5 drops
Aloe vera 2 tsp
Perfume QS
Phenoxy ethanol 1%
Preparation
Melt all ingredients except aloe vera gel and vitamin E
together. Once it is melted, add aloe vera gel and
vitamin E and mixed well using a blender until a uniform
cream like consistency is attained. If you need your
moisturizing butter to last longer, you may add phenoxy
ethanol 1% while blending.
SHAMPOO
Triphala shampoo
Ingredients
Shampoo base 100 ml
Triphala Kashayam 200 ml
Tea tree oil 5 drops
Salt water QS
Preparation
Prepared Triphala Kashayam is added to the soap base
little by little and mixed uniformly.
The watery mixture thus formed is kept for 12 hours.
After 12 hours, tea tree oil is added drop by drop and
keep stirring till it is well mixed.
To make the shampoo thicker, little salt water is added
to the mixture drop by drop and slowly stirred till the
desired consistency is attained.
Keep the liquid few minutes to settle and then bottled in
clean containers.
THAILAM
Varnyam oil
Ingredients
Draksha 24 gm
Dadimam 24 gm
Yashti madhu 48 gm
Manjistha 24 gm
Thailam 384 ml
Aja Ksheeram 768 ml
Water 1.536 litre
Preparation
Powder of Yashti and Manjishta and pasted draksha and
dadima is added as kalka
Thailam is kept in mild flame with the above said kalka
and water. Once mrudu paka is attained aja ksheera is
added
Oil is prepared till khara paka is obtained

Choornam is prepared and sieved through muslin cloth
to obtain very fine powder
LIP CARE
Manjishta lip balm

Bees Wax 3.5 gm
Manjishta oil 15 gm
Almond Butter 2 gm
Vitamin E 2 drop
Preparation
Melt all ingredients and pour into the container after
checking consistency
Allow to cool
Strawberry lipstick
Ingredients
Bees Wax 4 gm
Ghee 3 gm
Coconut oil 3 gm
Shea butter - refined 3 gm
Almond Oil 3 gm
Vitamin E 2 drop
Carnauba Wax 1 gm
Strawberry Flavour QS
Maroon lip safe colour QS
Preparation
Melt all ingredients and pour into the mould after
checking consistency
Allow to cool
