Math 150 Ref #10229 – Trigonometry – Summer 2026

INSTRUCTOR: Melody Summers VOICMAIL: (909) 274 – 5384

OFFICE: 61 – 1624 E-MAIL: msummers@[Link]

TEXT: Trigonometry, 12th Edition by Lial, Hornsby, Schneider and Daniels

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Access to Canvas throughout the semester and Access to MyLab for
the textbook above. You will need to purchase MyLab, though it is often included in the textbook
package when textbook is purchased from the MtSAC bookstore. You can purchase MyLab and use the e-
book within this software to access the textbook for reference. To purchase MyLab, go to the first MyLab
assignment in the Week 1 Module on Canvas. This assignment is called Section 1.1. Then select “Open
Pearson” and follow the prompts to purchase MyLab using a credit card. If you prefer, you can also
purchase MyLab from the MtSAC bookstore then use the code when you select “Open Pearson” within the
Section R4 assignment.

SPECIAL ACCOMODATIONS: If you believe that you require special accommodations, please
contact me as soon as possible (after registering with ACCESS) to allow enough time to see to your needs
before your grade is affected. You must contact me at least 2 days before accommodations are given.

MATH 150 MEASURABLE OBJECTIVES:

1. Evaluate trigonometric functions of angles measured in degrees and radians.

2. Solve right and oblique triangles.
3. Apply inverse trigonometric functions.
4. Graph trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functions.
5. Solve trigonometric equations.
6. Prove and use trigonometric identities.
7. Apply DeMoivre’s Theorem to powers and roots of complex numbers.
8. Apply the principles of trigonometry to problem solving.
9. Solve problems using vectors and vector operations.

MATH 150 STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES:

1. Without the use of a calculator, students will be able to graph the six trigonometric functions in a
precise manner, stating the period, amplitude, phase shift, and translation as appropriate.
2. The student will be able to accurately solve trigonometric equations over a given interval, including
equations that use multiple angles, identities, and quadratic forms.
GRADING POLICY

DISCUSSIONS: You will be responsible for replying to each of the 5 discussion posts throughout the
semester. You will have 5 days to reply to a post (once it is published) to receive up to 30 points of credit.
You will also be expected to comment on at least 1 of your classmates’ replies. You will receive up to 20
points for your reply. You will have an additional two days to reply to classmates’ posts at which time the
discussion will no longer be available. Each discussion will be released on Monday then close at midnight
on Sunday. Discussions are work 20% of your overall grade.

NOTES: You will need to watch the videos of the lectures for each section of the textbook and take
notes on partially typed note packets. Some sections have more than one lecture video. Do NOT type the
work in the note-packet, you will need to write the work in your own handwriting. You can download the
note packets from each notes assignment and complete the notes on a tablet or iPad, or you can print them
yourself or pick up a printed copy of the note packets for the entire intersession from outside my campus
office (building 61 room 1624). You will need to submit your completed notes for each section on Canvas
as a batched PDF. Notes can be submitted after the deadline without penalty, but if you fall more than a
week behind in submitting notes, you may be dropped from the class. Notes are worth 10% or your
overall grade.

MyLab EXERCISES: You will be expected to complete exercises for each section. The calendar for
the deadlines for these assignments is found on Canvas in the outline link. You can complete these
exercises early for full credit but if they are late, they are worth only half credit. No MyLab assignment
will be accepted after 8pm on Friday July 31st (which is also the deadline for completing your final test).
You should check each answer throughout a MyLab assignment. You will have 3 tries and unlimited time
to get the correct answer to receive credit. MyLab exercises are worth 20% of your overall grade.

MyLab Chapter TESTS: There will be 8 Chapter test on MyLab. The best 7 of the 8 test scores
will count toward your overall grade. MyLab tests are worth 30% of your overall grade. These tests
will include examples that are similar to the MyLab exercises, but you will only be given one attempt to
answer each example. Also, you will be given a limited amount of time to complete each test and must
complete the entire test within one sitting. If you are kicked out of a test, you will only be allowed to re-
enter with the permission of the instructor. You can only take each chapter test between 8am the day it is
released until 8pm the day the test is due. Deadlines for each test are listed below along with number of
questions and time allowed to complete the test. A missed test will count as a zero score for that test.

Chapter 1 Test: 90 minutes to complete 45 questions between 8am Wednesday June 24th and 8pm Thursday June 25th
Chapter 2 Test: 90 minutes to complete 30 questions between 8am Tuesday June 30th and 8pm Wednesday July 1st
Chapter 3 Test: 60 minutes to complete 27 questions between 8am Monday July 6th and 8pm Tuesday July 7th
Chapter 4 Test: 30 minutes to complete 21 questions between 8am Wednesday July 8th and 8pm Thursday July 9th
Chapter 5 Test: 60 minutes to complete 21 questions between 8am Wednesday July 15th and 8pm Thursday July 16th
Chapter 6 Test: 45 minutes to complete 19 questions between 8am Monday July 20th and 8pm Tuesday July 21st
Chapter 7 Test: 90 minutes to complete 16 questions between 8am Thursday July 23rd and 8pm Friday July 24th
Chapter 8 Test: 45 minutes to complete 28 questions between 8am Wednesday July 29th and 8pm Thursday July 30th

MyLab Final Test: There will be final test covering all 8 chapters on MyLab with examples similar to
those on the Chapter tests. You will have 150 minutes to complete 72 questions on the final test between
8am Thursday July 30th and 8pm Friday July 31st. The final test is worth 20% of your overall grade.
GRADING: Your final grade will be determined by your overall percentage from discussions, notes,
exercises, tests and your final test according to the following chart.

90 – 100% A 50 – 69% D
80 – 89% B below 50% F
70 – 79% C

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY

I understand that the grade I get for this class should reflect my understanding of the material. I promise to
do all tests without the aid of any additional help from other people, AI, websites, apps, textbooks or other
references. I understand that I must show my work for all test questions clearly on my own paper and
submit this work to the appropriate Test Prep assignment on Canvas immediately after completing my test.
If my work is not received or is insufficient to justify my answers using methods from the class notes, I
understand that I will receive a lower score for my test (possibly as low as zero). If my professor suspects
that I am not taking my test honestly, she may require me to take a test either via Zoom or in person. If I
am unable or unwilling to retake a test (as requested by instructor) I accept that I will be given a zero for
that test.
