Welcome Note
Dear Trainer,
Welcome to the Certificate Program in Web Designing and Development. This training programme has
been designed in response to the growing demand for web designers and [Link] Trainer’s
guide will assist you in teaching the fundamentals of web designing and development. This program is
an introduction to the design and creation of web pages and websites. The program progresses from
introductory work on web design to a culminating project in which trainees design and develop a full
dynamic website for an online shopping store.
As you may be aware, most participants are either pursuing BSc IT or BTech and are in their final year. Some
others have finished their graduation and have joined the program to further hone their skills needed for
entry into web design and development careers. The program has been contrived with the pre-meditated
purpose of enhancing the placement quotient of the trainees. The program curriculum caters to industry
specific needs and is further shaped by hands-on experience and live projects.
The Teacher’s Guide includes supplemental information and tips for delivering each session. The curriculum
design includes multiple practical test runs. Personalized simulations have been provided for each of these
tests. Each trainee has been provided with a Participant Handbook that can be used for reference and class
reading. Try and supplement the classroom material with additional activities, including guest speakers
from the local web design community and visits to relevant local businesses. These connections with
the real world of web design help to introduce trainees to the IT workplace and related employment
opportunities. Your ultimate goal as a trainer is to help trainees progress to a rewarding career as a web
professional.
We hope that you too will gain from this training programme and will be able to help us take it to a higher
level through your delivery.

Ice Breaker
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT introduce each other and build rapport with fellow participants and trainer.
Say
What a great way to start off! Friends, now that we are all rejuvenated, let us move onto introductions.
Everyone should introduce themselves by choosing an adjective that begins with the first letter of their
first name and one that really matches their personality. For example Helpful Harish.
Introduce yourselves. Then, the next person will first tell the name and quality of the person before him
and then give his name with his quality. The person next to him will give the name and quality of the
first two people before him and then introduce himself. So on and so forth. So let’s begin the game. I
will start with my name.
Do
Arrange the entire class in a circle. Start the game by giving your name with a quality starting with the
first letter of your name.
Say
So, now that we know each other’s names, let’s get to know each other a little more. We will be spending
the next 100 days in each other’s company, and it is a good idea to know each other better.
Do
After the game is over, introduce yourself. Give the following information about yourself - personal
information, family background, about your career.
Say
Now each of you can introduce yourself in the same way.
48
Say
Great! It’s good to meet you all. Today, we will commence with the Certificate Program in Web Designing
and Development. This course will walk you through the various technologies used in web designing
and development.
The participant guide provided is a compilation of resources to help foster better understanding of the
technologies.
Your cooperation and involvement is extremely essential to successful delivery of the training. So feel
free to ask any questions.
Introduction to Sketching
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT explain the scope of sketching.
Do
Review the learning objectives.
Begin by explaining the importance of sketching in web designing. Tell them Sketching is an important
skill in the design field. It gives a kick start to one’s creative process on paper, allowing you to work in a
more spontaneous and stimulating way.
Continue by showing them the various materials used in sketching.
Say
Now let us look at the various things we will need whilst sketching.
Here I have some drawing pencils, a pencil sharpener, a kneadable eraser, some sand paper and an A4
size sketch book.
Do
Pass around the material, so that the class can get a better feel of each of them.
Say
Now let us look at the various ways you can hold a pencil while sketching.
49
Do
Use the flip chart to show them the ways of holding a pencil while sketching. Demonstrate the exact
manner in which they should hold the pencil. You can even ask the participants to hold the pencil and
imitate you. You can then check to see if everyone is holding the pencil correctly.
Do
Go on to explain the various sketching techniques by demonstrating on the flip chart. Ask the participants
to try out the various techniques on paper.
Do
Initiate a discussion on the key learnings and walk the participants through the worksheet. The answers
to the worksheet have been listed towards the end of each session.
Color Theory
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT explain the basic rules of colour relationships, tints, and shades by creating a colour wheel.
Do
Review the learning objectives. Begin the session by initiating a discussion on colour theory.
Ask
What do you understand by colour?
Responses
Colour is an element of art which reflects when light strikes an object.
Do
Encourage the participants to delve deeper. Clarify the three properties of colour - Hue, Saturation,
Value. Go on to explain Colour theory.
Demonstrate the basic rules of colour relationship and the colour wheel. If time permits you can even
involve the class to mix colours and see the colour change for themselves. Remember to take a box of
paint and a paint palette.
Initiate a discussion on the key learnings and walk the participants through the worksheet. The answers
to the worksheet have been listed towards the end of each session.
50
Visual Design
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT explain the concept of visual design.
Do
Review the learning objectives. Begin the session by initiating a discussion on visual designing.
Ask
What is visual designing?
Responses
Visual Design is communication of concepts and ideas and its basic elements are colour palette, lights,
shadows, textures, fonts etc.
Do
Thank the participants for their responses and add onto the discussion. Explain the four basic principles
used for visual designing one by one. Use the pictorial examples delineated in the participant handbook.
Initiate a discussion on the difference between visual designing and graphic designing
Ask
What is the difference between visual designing and graphic designing?
Responses
Visual Design is the field of developing visual materials to create an experience. It is often an integral
step in information design and other communication design disciplines. Whereas graphic designing
refers specifically to the use of graphic media (such as colour, symbol, and type) to communicate a style
or expression.
Do
Continue the discussion by differentiating between visual designing and graphic designing.

The different colour modes are RGB (where R stands for Red, G stands for Green and B stands for Blue)
and CMYK (where C stands for Cyan, M for Magenta, Y for Yellow and K for Black).
The RGB mode is used when the image will be viewed in digital medium like T.V. and Computer monitors.
The CMYK is used when the image has to be created for print media.
53
Do
Let the video run till the end.
Ask
What are layers and why should we organise the design in layers?
What type of file is to be sved for retaining layers?
Responses
Layers are like transparent sheets, the design can be organised or placed one on top of the other as we
work and edit.
Each layer can be edited separately without effecting the other.
For retaining the layers the file should be saved as PSD.
Say
Yes, Photoshop allows you to organise your design into layers as you work. Layers are designs placed

Responses
The Healing Brush Tool, The Patch Tool and the Stamp Tool.
The Healing Brush Tool corrects and repairs spots and areas.
The Patch Tool repairs the area by applying a patch over the area.
The Clone Stamp Tool, takes a sample and applies over the area to be repaired.
The Blur Tool decreases the contrast in the colour.
Say
Yes, there are various sets of retouching tools – the Healing Brush Tool, the Spot Healing Brush Tool, the
Patch Tool and the Clone Stamp Tool.
The Healing Brush Tool has Tools for repairing areas: the Spot Healing Brush Tool for small areas and
Healing Brush Tool for larger areas.
The Patch Tool, can be accessed from the Healing Brush Menu. The Patch Tool does not repair by
painting on the defective area, but by applying a patch over the defective area. To blend the heal and
the patch with the rest of the image, adjust the opacity of the colour tint.
With Clone Stamp tool, first a sample or stamp is created. Then the stamp is dragged along the area to
be repaired. The opacity control is not available for the Stamp Tool
Do
Let the video run till the use of Sponge Tool. Then, pause the video.
Ask
How different is the effects of Dodge and Burn Tool in comparison to Blur Tool and Sharpen Tool?
What is the difference in the use of Smudge Tool and Sponge Tool?
60
Responses
The Blur Tool and the Sharpen Tool modifies the contrast in the area applied.
The Dodge Tool and the Burn Tool brighten up or darken the area where applied.
The Smudge Tool blends the pixels in the area applied and the Sponge Tool soaks up the colour from
the area applied.
Say
Yes, the Blur Tool and the Sharpen Tool are for adjusting contrast on the area applied. The Blur Tool
decreases the contrast and the Sharpen Tool increases the contrast.
The Dodge Tool, brightens up the area to give a highlighted effect and the Burn Tool gives a shadow
effect by darkening the area on which the tool is applied
The Smudge Tool pushes the pixels around. in the area applied, and gives an effect like finger painting.
The Sponge Tool soaks up the colour from the area applied.

Recap
Say
Before we begin our day today, let us recap what we have learnt yesterday.
We saw the use of various tools in Photoshop. We also saw how to locate these tools in the Photoshop
interface.
We learnt the use of Selection Tools, the Draw and Paint Tools. Then, we used the special effects tools
to repair the damaged portion of an image.
We also saw the use of History Tool to undo changes.
Scanning
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT scan an image or a photograph
Say
You will be learning how to scan an image or a photograph.
Do
Let the video run till the paper with the illustration is placed inside the scanner. Then, pause the video.
64
Ask
How was the paper with the illustration placed inside the scanner and why?
Responses
The paper was placed with the image facing the glass screen.
Say
Any scanner will have a glass screen once you open the scanner cover. You have to place the paper
such that the illustrated image faces the glass screen. You must have observed how the paper with the
illustration was placed, facing the glass screen of the scanner.
Apart from this, you also have to make sure that the paper is aligned and positioned properly so as to
avoid mistakes.
Do
Let the video run till the settings in the scan software appears and scanning is complete. Then, pause
the video.
Ask
What are the settings available while scanning?
How to make sure that the scanning is complete?
Responses
TT The settings available are:
• Profile
• Source
• Color Format
• File Type
• Resolution
• Brightness and contrast
• Preview
TT By checking if the scanned file is saved in the default scanning folder.
65
Say
TT Yes there are many settings before you scan the image. These settings help you control the output
and modify it, to a certain extent.
• We choose the Photo (Default) option from the dropdown as the source image is a pencil
drawing.
• Source will display the type of scanner used, in our case it is a flatbed scanner.
• Color settings help you to scan an image in color, black and white or grayscale. In our case,
we select the grayscale option as it will enhance the shaded areas of the illustration.
• File type will ask you in which format you would like to save the scanned image, you can
choose any format as per your requirement. In our case we have chosen the JPEG format
as it takes the least space.
• Resolution shows the DPI (Dots Per Inch) settings that should be defined for printing or soft
copy. In our case, we define 300 DPI which is the minimum resolution required for printing.
As a general rule, a resolution of 75-100dpi is sufficient for e-mailing, while 300dpi is
appropriate for printing.
• You can manually adjust the brightness or contrast settings, as per your requirement,
before scanning.
• Preview enables you to see the actual output without scanning and helps to make further
settings if required. In our case, we removed the blank space on the illustrated image.
TT There are two ways through which you can make out whether the scanning is over or not. One is
the Progress Bar that displays the progress of scanning and other is when the file is automatically
saved in the default scanning folder.

Morning Energiser
Resources to be used
Please refer to the “Morning Energisers” section in the Trainer Guide. You may pick the energiser that
is recommended for the day of the week.
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT color a black and white photograph or image.
Say
You will be learning how to transform a simple black and white photograph or image into a colored one
Do
Let the video run till the unsharpened part of the first pencil is selected. Then, pause the video.
Ask
Why did we select a specific part and put it in a layer?
Which tool was used for selecting the unsharpened part?
Responses
Each part needs to have a different color, hence we first have to select a specific part. The selected part
has to be put in a new layer, so that it remains independent.
Working on a specific part in a separate layer ensures that other parts of the same image don’t get
affected.
Polygonal Lasso Tool was used for selecting the unsharpened part.
Say
Remember to create new layers for every new part that you work on.
Creating layers helps in quick modification of the parts where required, without affecting the rest of the
image.
Correct, the tool used for selecting the unsharpened part is the Polygonal Lasso tool. It is one of the
selection tools and allows both freehand and straight lined selections.
68
Do
Let the video run till the unsharpened part of the first pencil is colored using Hue/ Saturation, Levels and
Curves option. Then, pause the video.
Ask
Which options did we use for coloring the unsharpened part of the pencil?
Which option was selected in the Hue/ Saturation window before selecting the color?
What was done to blend the colors?
Responses
TT The options used were:
• Hue/Saturation
• Levels
• Curves.
TT Colorize option was selected before adding color.
TT Used Color Blend mode to blend colors with the base image.
Say
TT Yes we used Hue/Saturation, Levels and Curves for coloring.
• The Hue/Saturation option enables you to add and adjust colors in your image. Hue is
the color in your image. Saturation is the intensity, or richness of that color. And lightness
controls the brightness value.
• Levels option enables to adjust the level of light and dark areas of the image.
• Curves option adjusts the tonal range of an image. However, the range and quality of
adjustment is much greater than that of the Levels option. Precise adjustments to individual
color channels can be made using the curves option.
TT Colorize option at the bottom right of the Hue/Saturation dialog box will automatically use the
Foreground color to colorize the image.
TT The Color Blend Mode in Photoshop takes the grey areas of the base color and colors them with
the blend color. This mode helps to blend the base color with the new color added.

Ask
What is it that we learnt yesterday?
Responses
Scanning, Coloring and Grooming skills.
Say
TT Yes, we have seen how to scan photographs, images or documents using a scanner. Let us recall
some important points to take care while scanning.
• Place the paper – face down on the glass screen
• Align and position the paper properly
• Always use the preview option to check before scanning
• Never open the scanner lid while scanning is in progress.
TT Next, we saw how to colour a black and white image using Photoshop tools. During colouring, we
saw the use of organizing work into Layers. We saw how to adjust the Hue, Saturation levels of
colors.
TT We also saw a video on the importance of grooming.
71
Old to New
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT convert an old photograph into a new one.
Say
You will be learning how to convert an old photograph into a new one.
Do
Let the video run till Reduce Noise and High Pass Filter options are over. Then, pause the video.
Ask
Why do we use these options instead of adding color directly?
Which option did we use to remove the grainy effect from the old photograph?
How did we bring out the finer details in the photograph?
Responses
Initial settings are necessary for preparing the photograph before adding color.
Reduce Noise.
High Pass Filter.
Say
Some initial settings are required prior to enhancing an old photograph are, removing the grainy effects
and sharpening the image before adding color. This is done for a better output.
Yes, the Reduce Noise option enables us to reduce grainy effects in a photograph. Noise appears as a
spray of colored or black and white pixels in a photograph. This makes it look grainy or rough and crude.
Reduce Noise option helps to overcome this problem and improves the image quality.
High Pass Filter helps to give a soft and smooth effect to the skin in a photo without blurring out
important details. This sharpens finer details in a photograph.
Do
Let the video run, till the boy's face is colored and spilled colors are erased. Then, pause the video.
72
Ask
Which tool did we use to add color?
From where did we choose the color?
How did we erase the spilled color?
Responses
Brush tool
Color Palette
Eraser tool
Say
Yes the Brush tool is one of the most useful tools in Photoshop, with an excellent range of features
available. Coloring is one of the prime feature of this tool.
Color Palette is one of the options from where you can choose colors. It provides a color range along
the bottom of the palette for selecting a color. The sliders in the color palette allow you to refine your
color choice by adjusting each slider.
As the name suggests, the Eraser tool erases the unnecessary parts in an image. It can also be used
to cover unnecessary colors in an image. This can be done by reducing the opacity while covering the
unwanted colored parts with transparent pixels.
Retouching Photographs
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT retouch and restore a torn or damaged photograph.
Say
You will be learning how to retouch and restore a torn or damaged photograph.
Do
Let the video play till the Clone Stamp and Healing Brush tool work is over. Then, pause the Video.
73
Ask
Which are the two tools used for retouching the torn areas in a photograph?
Responses
Clone Stamp tool
Healing Brush tool
Say
TT Yes we used the Clone Stamp tool and Healing Brush tool to restore and retouch the damaged
areas.
• The Clone Stamp tool enables you to take a sample color near the damaged part. Then it
applies the same color to cover the damaged part. This blends the damaged part with the
rest of the photograph to show as if the photo was never damaged.
• The Healing Brush tool lets you correct imperfections, causing them to disappear into the
surrounding image. You could see how minor blemishes like the black mole on the old
man's forehead were removed. The Healing Brush was used to blend the mole seamlessly
into the rest of the image.
Do
Play the video where color samples are taken while using the two tools along with the Opacity and Flow
settings of the tools.
Ask
How to make sure that the damaged area is retouched without changing the color?
Which settings have to be changed in order to control the color blending effect over the damaged part?
Responses
Take a sample color near the damaged area to cover the damaged part.
Opacity and Flow settings.
Say
You have to take sample colors from near the area that needs to be retouched in order to mend the
damaged areas.
Opacity controls the amount or intensity of the color. Flow controls its distribution. Using these two
settings together, while using the Clone Stamp and Healing Brush tool gives a tremendous level of color
control.

Compositing Photographs
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT create a new image using two or more photographs or images.
Say
You will be learning how to use two or more images to create a new composite image.
Do
Let the video play where the lion and deer selection happens. Then, pause the video.
76
Ask
Which are the two tools used for selecting the lion and the deer?
Responses
Polygonal Lasso Tool
Magnetic Lasso Tool
Say
TT Yes, we used the Polygonal Lasso Tool to select the Lion and Magnetic Lasso Tool to select the
deer
• Remember, we used the Polygonal Lasso Tool in Black and White to Color module too. This
tool can select both freehand and straight areas. But it is not as precise as the Magnetic
Lasso Tool.
• The Magnetic Lasso Tool is much more powerful than the Polygonal Lasso Tool. When
selecting the deer the Magnetic Lasso Tool automatically placed anchor points on same
colour pixel as the mouse was dragged over the outline. This made it easy to select the
deer’s body with precision.
Do
Let the video run where the lion and deer are resized and the position of the deer is reversed.
Ask
Which tool is used for resizing the lion and deer?
What command was used to reverse the position of the deer?
Responses
Free Transform tool
Flip Horizontal
Say
Yes, Free Transform Tool is used for resizing the images as well as for rotating their position.
The Flip Horizontal command flips the image horizontally to change its position.
77
Manipulating Photographs
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT to manipulate a photograph by merging two or more images.
Say
You will be learning how to manipulate a photograph by merging two or more images which portrays
deception or illusion.
Do
Let the video play till the snake’s head is adjusted on the Dog’s head using the Warp tool. Then, pause
the video.
Ask
Which tool is used for adjusting the snake’s head on the dog’s head?
Responses
Warp Tool
Say
Yes we used the Warp Tool, adjust the dimensions of the snake’s head to match the dimensions of the
dog’s head. It lets you drag control points to manipulate the shape of images, shapes, or paths.
Do
Let the video play till the point where the snake’s neck blends seamlessly with that of the dog’s body.
Then, pause the video.
Ask
Name the tool and settings used for giving a seamless effect to the neck area of the dog with that of
the snake.
Responses
Brush Tool
Brush Opacity and Flow settings
78
Say
Apart from coloring, the Brush Tool can also be used to cover/ color unwanted parts with transparent
pixels or by blending colors. In this case it is used to blend the area around both the dog’s neck and the
snake’s neck to give a seamless effect.
It is the brush opacity and flow settings that help the Brush Tool to blend colors around the neck area.
Adjusting the opacity and flow sliders gives the desired effect.

Do
Ask trainees questions about the sessions of the previous day.
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT work with classic and text layout framework text engines.
Do
Review the learning objective. Start the class by dwelling on the Text tool.
Ask
What all do you know about the Text Tool?
Responses
You add text to the stage and pasteboard using the Text Tool. It is similar to most paint programs.
Do
Select the Text Tool. Ask the trainee to look at the Property Inspector and notice the series of Tool
options. Introduce the class to the two text engines.
Say
Adobe Flash Professional CS5 lets you add text to a Flash application in two formats. You can add text
to a FLA file using a new text engine called the Text Layout Framework (TLF) in addition to the previous
text format called Classic text.
Do
Demonstrate how to create various types of text field. Ask the trainees to practice writing their names
in different types of text field and see for themselves how some are editable in the Test Movie Window
106
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT edit a text field.
Do
Review the learning objective. Start the class by asking the trainees to add their address, age to the
text field. They will notice that a red plus appears in a TLF text container when they fill it with more text
than fits. Tell them that this red plus indicates the text is overset. Overset text is text that does not fit
in the container.
Tell them they can solve the problem of overset text by making the container bigger or by adding a
scroll bar. Once you have taught them how to make the text scrollable you can ask trainees to practice
on their computers.
Next take them through the process of breaking the text apart into individual letters that can be moved
about or edited individually.
Timeline Panel - 1
Objective

107
Timeline Panel - 2
Objective
After completing this session, trainees will be able to:
TT work with layers and layer folders in Flash.
Do
Review the learning objective.
Start this session by explaining what layers are. You can use transparent sheets and draw parts of a
single image on each transparency. One transparency might have the background. One transparency
might have text. Another transparency might display the company logo.
First display each transparency by itself, then stack the transparencies on top of one another and view
the stack as one image by projecting the stack on the overhead projector.
Once you have demonstrated how to create layers you can explicate the various icons towards the left
of the layer name.
Teach them how to create and access layer folders.
Say
By making objects on different layers, it is possible to have many animations happening at the same
time. This is because each layer can be added along the timeline at the same frame number. For instance
you have created a dog, using different layers you can make the dog’s tail and his ears wiggle at the
same time.
Do
Conclude the day by a pop quiz.

This is my first web page
Wow! Pretty cool isn’t it?
</body>
</html>
Ask
What do you think went wrong? Why are the two sentences appearing on the same line?
153
Say
This is because web browsers don't usually take any notice of what line your code is on. It also doesn't
take any notice of spaces
You would get the same result if you typed "This is my first web page.......wow!”
If you want text to appear on different lines, you need to explicitly state that.
Change your two lines of content so that they look like this...
Do
Implement the paragraph tag at the appropriate place and show the result of this in the browser.
The content will now appear on two lines.
Draw an analogy between book and HTML content. Ask the trainees to think of their HTML content as

You then learned the basics of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) that helped you structure your
website. Next, you went on to manipulate the appearance of the website structure using Cascading
Styles Sheets (CSS). The subsequent modules explored the various scripting technologies, and effective
use of web authoring tools.
Coming to the final unit – This outlines a culminating project in which you will design and develop
websites on their behalf.
Over the next two afternoons you will be creating a small 4-5 page website on your “favourite person,
place or thing” or perhaps you could create a webpage for each of those favourite topics. You can also
pick a hobby/sport that you like. Let’s share our thoughts around...
