Chapter 1
1.1 Introduction
Fintech, or financial technology, is a term that describes the mobile
applications, software and other technology that enable users and enterprises to access and
manage their finances digitally,(Soni et al. 2022). The term "fintech", a combination of the
words "finance" and "technology", was initially used by banks to describe technology that
helped them track and manage their clients’ accounts,(Soni et al. 2022). However, the term
has shifted to include more consumer-related services, such as apps and software that are
used to create budgets, track spending and buy and sell stocks. Financial technology has
increasingly shaped global economic growth by transforming how financial transactions are
conducted worldwide. Modern fintech firms in both investment banking and retail trading
have leveraged the internet and user-friendly smartphones to create more accessible and
efficient financial services,(Alfonso et al., 2021).Banking applications, for instance,
empower customers to perform digital transactions conveniently, reducing the reliance on
traditional banking protocols and making financial services more approachable online than
through conventional methods (Wang, 2021). Fintech innovations have revolutionized
financial transactions by enabling a wide range of activities, such as applying for credit
without visiting bank branches, raising capital for startups, managing investments, and
facilitating cashless payments. The internet has been pivotal in expanding fintech access to
previously unbanked populations, thereby democratizing financial services globally (Popkin,
2019). Fintech has emerged as a potential game-changer in global financial transactions,
offering solutions that improve accessibility, efficiency, and overall economic growth.
1.2 Objectives
The main aim of this study is to explore the role and impact of fintech innovations in shaping
global financial transactions. The specific objectives are:
1 To examine the role of fintech innovations in transforming global financial transactions
2 To analyze the impact of fintech on efficiency, accessibility, and inclusivity in international
financial systems
3 To assess the contribution of fintech to the security, transparency, and reliability of cross-
border financial transactions
4 To explore behavioral and technological mechanisms in fintech that influence global financial
practices and adoption
5 To identify regulatory, ethical, and operational challenges in adopting fintech solutions in
international financial markets.
1.3 Scope of the study
Financial Technology refers to a wide range of digital innovations that are transforming the way
financial services are delivered across the world,( Johnson et al. 2017).Technologies such as
digital payment systems, blockchain, mobile banking, artificial intelligence, and online financial
platforms have significantly changed the structure and functioning of financial transactions,
(Auer et al., 2020) .
This study focuses on the role of fintech innovations in facilitating global financial transactions.
It examines how digital financial technologies are improving the speed, efficiency, accessibility,
and transparency of cross-border payments and international financial services. The research also
considers how fintech solutions enable individuals, businesses, and financial institutions to
participate more effectively in the global financial ecosystem,(Böhme et al.2015).
1.4 Methodology
The present study is based on secondary data to understand the role of fintech innovations in
transforming global financial transactions. The research methodology is designed by identifying
research gaps through an extensive review of existing literature, industry reports, and global
financial databases related to fintech development and international financial systems.
The study attempts to understand the global adoption of fintech technologies during the
study period by identifying key drivers such as the rapid growth of digital payment systems,
expansion of mobile banking, development of blockchain technology, increasing use of
artificial intelligence in financial services, and the global shift toward digital financial
ecosystems following the COVID-19 pandemic. These factors have significantly influenced
the growth of fintech in facilitating cross-border financial transactions,(Dr.V.Kanimozhi1
and Dayana Rose K2,2022).
The research analyzes the growth and expansion of digital financial transactions worldwide,
including the increasing use of online payment platforms, mobile wallets, and digital
banking services. This helps in understanding the extent to which fintech innovations have
improved the accessibility, efficiency, and speed of global financial transactions for
individuals, businesses, and financial institutions,(M. Hasan et.al2024).
The study evaluates the technological innovations within the fintech industry, such as
blockchain-based payment systems, peer-to-peer (P2P) payment platforms, and digital
remittance services, which play a major role in improving transparency, security, and cost
efficiency in international financial transactions,(Acquah et al.2023).
