while handling the fuel.
Extremely less energy density leads to less power and torque
output than the petrol or diesel-powered counterparts even if
the hydrogen is huge.
Cold start conditions require compression ratios as high as 40:1
which is not easy to achieve.
Flame temperature, flame speed of hydrogen is high which
results in high cylinder pressure rate and local temperature,
leading to high NOx emissions.
When the hydrogen in gaseous state used in IC engine, the
hydrogen displaces equal volume of inlet air inside the engine
cylinder, resulting poorer volumetric efficiency.

water on the mixture of H2-air injected before diesel injection in
cylinder [15,16].

4.3. Crankcase ventilation results

From reading various research papers, we concluded that crank-

case ventilation is much more crucial for hydrogen engines than it
is for normal IC engines.
In gasoline engines, piston rings provide enough space to the
unburnt fuel to seep through and accumulate in the crankcase.
Any unburnt H2 that accumulates in the crankcase has a high
chance of ignition because of low ignition limit than gasoline.
A startling noise or sound from within the crankcase can serve
as the indication of ignition. A sudden pressure rise occurs when
ignition of hydrogen takes place within the crankcase. To deal with
