I. Objectives: At the end of one week, the learner will be able to

1. identify the different changes in the health dimensions during puberty


2. recognize the different health appraisal procedures for different health concerns
2. realizes the importance of managing different changes of each health dimension in
order to achieve holistic health
3. show respect to other people who are experiencing health concerns
4. supply ways on how to manage the health concerns that happens to each health
dimension during puberty.

A. Introduction:

Before we start with our topic, let us try to reflect on the questions below.
Essential Questions:
 Why should adolescents be health conscious?
 How should one approach challenges of adolescence?
 How should one manage health concerns during the adolescence?
 Why appraise one’s health?
B. Lesson/s Presentation
Have you observed some changes in your body composition? When did you
notice these changes? How about the way you think and behave? Did you notice
sometimes that you get easily irritated? Or even tend to question your existence in this
world?
Those experiences are just normal since you’re reaching the age of puberty.
What is Puberty?
It is a period of human development in which adolescents experience dramatic
physical growth and development. These are all manifested through the development of
the secondary sex characteristics and the capability for sexual reproduction. Puberty is
a period of stress both physically and emotionally.
Adolescents may experience pubertal changes gradually. Several signs of
sexual maturation may become visible at the same time. Some adolescents may
experience these signs of growth earlier or later than others. Pubertal changes
generally happen to girls between the ages of 10 to 11 and to boys 10-13 years of age.
During puberty, a person will not just experience physical changes but there are
also some changes that will occur in each of our health dimensions. Please read
everything about Changes in the Health Dimension during Puberty (Refer to your book
on page 367)
Process Questions:
What are the physical changes that occurs for boys? How about for girls?
Why is puberty stage considered as stressful both physical and emotionally?
How should one handle situations related to physical changes in order to
protect the emotion?
During puberty, changes would occur gradually and during the process different health
concerns might take place.
What is a Health Concern?
Health Concerns are those problems/conflicts that adolescents might experience
during the stage of puberty.
What are the different health concerns that adolescents experienced upon reaching the
age of puberty?
Below are the different health concerns experienced during puberty.
1. Poor Eating Habit
2. Dental Problem
3. Body Odor
4. Lack of Sleep
5. Lack of Physical Activity
6. Postural Problems

pages 374-378 about the different health concerns)

Since different health concerns might take place during the puberty, it is really
necessary for us to know how to manage each of these concerns.

Heath Appraisal is a record of an individual’s fitness as well as ones risk of developing


certain illnesses and medical conditions.
Adolescent like you might experience different health concerns and so it is really
important for you to undergo some of these health appraisal procedures.

What are the different health appraisal procedures that you can undergo for specific
health concerns?
(Read and understand the essence of each Health Appraisal and on how it can be
done. You can find it in your book on pages 384-389. Reflect on the process questions
that follows).
