signals the salivary gland to produce saliva in anticipation of eating.

(a) Fluid A - Lymph
Fluid B - Blood
(b) Fluid A i.e. lymph is forced out of the blood stream into the intercellular spaces. From here lymph enters
lymph capillaries through which it reaches lymphatic vessels. Lymph flows from lymphatic vessels to lymphatic
nodes which are connected to subclavian veins. The Lymph thus enters circulalory system and becomes part of
blood. The flow of lymph can be shown in the form of flow chart as
Intercellular spaces → lymph capillaries → lymph vessels → lymph nodes → subclvian veins.

When identical prisms are placed in such a way that one is placed inverted with respect to the other and a narrow
beam of white light is incident on one, it emerges out of second prism as white light. Angle of deflections of two
prism are equal and opposite. while first prism splits light in the seven colours, the second prism combines
spectrum along a single ray and again combine to give white light.

(a) The two ways of oxidation of glucose in human body are :-
(i) Aerobic respiration : In this glucose is oxidized in the presence of oxygen in mitochondria of cell. The end
products formed are - CO2 and H2O
(ii) Anaerobic respiration - It is oxidation of glucose in the absence or lack of oxygen. It takes place in two ways.
• In yeast (fermentation) - glucose is oxidized in cytoplasm in the absence of O2. The end products formed are
ethanol and CO2.
• In muscle cells - In improper supply of O2 glucose breaks down in the cytoplasm of muscle cells. The end
products formed is lactic acid.
(b) Breathing rate in aquatic organisms is faster than terrestrial organisms as aquatic organisms take dissolved
oxygen from water which is quite less as compared to oxygen present in air.

Process of urine formation in humans
Blood containing nitrogenous waste (urea) is purified in nephrons present in kidneys. Nephrons are the filtration
units of kidney.
Structure of nephron
The process of urine formation takes place in nephron as follows
(i) Glomerular filtration - Nitrogenous wastes, glucose, water, amino acids filter from the blood into the
Bowman's capsule of the nephron
(ii) Reabsorption - Useful substances like glucose, water and amino acids considered necessary in the filtrate are
reabsorbed by renal tubules which then travel back into the blood stream. Maximum reabsorption occurs in PCT.
(iii) Tubular secretion - Unwanted substances like urea left in the blood capillaries pass directly into the renal
tubules as tubular secretion. This is an additional way of getting waste materials into the urine
The tubule carrying urine opens up into the collecting duct and then into the ureter.

(i) Beneficial - Ozone layer in the stratosphere is good because it protects living beings from harmful ultraviolet
radiations from the sun.
(ii) Damage - Ozone gas at the ground level is bad because if inhaled, it can trigger a variety of health problems.
It can cause raspiratory pathway to constrict leading to shortness of breath.
(b) Depletion of ozone can be prevented by -
(i) Reducing the use of CFC in refrigerators, AC'S etc.
(ii) Avoid using aerosols, sprays etc.

When a rectangular glass slab is immersed in any medium, the ray incident on the slab suffers two refractions,
and emerges parallel to itself but displaced / shifted laterally. This is because deviation suffered by the ray in
first refraction at one face of slab is equal and opposite to deviation suffered by the ray in 2nd refraction at other
face of the slab.
AO - incident ray
OO' - Refracted ray
O'B - Emergent ray
∠ 1 - angle of incidence
Lr1 - angle of refraction
Lr2 - angle as incidence from glass to air
∠ e - angle of emergence
d - lateral displacement

Req 10 10 10 5
Req = 5Ω
I total = V = 10 = 2A
Req 5

(b) Pollen tube carries male gametes (Pollen nuclei) from pollen grain to the female germ cell for fertilization
(c) Fertilization is fusion of male gametes with the female gamete and pollination is the process which carries
pollen grains (male cells) to the female reproductive part (carpel). So fertilization takes place after pollination.
Hence without pollination fertilization is not possible

find (i) image distance (v) = ?
(ii) focal length (f) = ?
(i) We know that
HI −4
m= = = −4
HO 1
also magnification given as object distance & image distance as :-
⇒ m = −V ⇒ −4 = −V ⇒ V = −80cm
u −20
∴ Image distance is 80cm
(ii) by using mirror formula
1 1 1 1 1 1 −1 − 4 −80
⇒ = + ⇒ = − = ⇒f= = −16cm
f V u f −80 20 80 5
∴ Focal length of converging mirror is 16cm.
(b) Convex mirror is preferred as a rear view mirror because it always gives an erect, though diminished image.
