PREFACE
This book has been written as a textbook on Fundamentals of Python Programming for
Beginners. Its primary objective is to help students understand the fundamental concepts
of Python programming in a clear, systematic, and learner-friendly manner. The book seeks
to introduce students and aspiring engineers to Python programming through simple
explanations, recent developments, and meaningful comparisons between theoretical
concepts and real-world applications. Plain and lucid language has been employed
throughout the text to explain the subject's core concepts effectively.
The book covers the essential fundamentals of Python programming and is designed to make
learning easy through simple examples and practical illustrations. Numerous examples,
diagrams, and demonstrations are included to provide the necessary technical knowledge in
a straightforward manner, thereby facilitating better understanding and retention of
concepts. Exercises are provided at the end of each chapter to help readers assess and
strengthen their understanding.
All five units have been comprehensively covered through both theoretical discussions and
problem-solving approaches. A substantial number of examination-oriented problems have
been solved to reinforce theoretical concepts and enhance problem-solving skills. The book's
examination-focused approach is further reflected in the inclusion of solutions to selected
previous university examination questions.
This book will serve as a valuable resource not only for students of engineering and
polytechnic institutions but also for faculty members and self-learners seeking a strong
foundation in Python programming. We warmly welcome and highly appreciate constructive

SYLLABUS
UNIT 1: Introduction to Python
Python variables, Python basic Operators, Understanding python blocks. Python Data Types,
Declaring and using Numeric data types: int, float etc.
UNIT 2: Python Program Flow Control Conditional blocks
if, else and else if, Simple for loops in python, For loop using ranges, string, list and
dictionaries. Use of while loops in python, Loop manipulation using pass, continue, break and
else. Programming using Python conditional and loop blocks.
UNIT 3: Python Complex data types
Using string data type and string operations, Defining list and list slicing, Use of Tuple data
type. String, List and Dictionary, Manipulations Building blocks of python programs, string
manipulation methods, List manipulation. Dictionary manipulation, Programming using
string, list and dictionary in-built functions. Python Functions, Organizing python codes
using functions.
UNIT 4: Python File Operations
Reading files, writing files in python, Understanding read functions, read(), readline(),
readlines(). Understanding write functions, write() and writelines() Manipulating file
pointer using seek Programming, using file operations.
UNIT 5: Python packages
Simple programs using the built-in functions of packages matplotlib, numpy, pandas etc. GUI
Programming: Tkinter introduction, Tkinter and Python Programming, Tk Widgets, Tkinter
examples. Python programming with IDE.
AUTHORS BIOGRAPHY
Dr. Arun Kumar G is working as a Professor in the Department of ECE at JSS University,
Noida, Uttar Pradesh. He completed his Diploma in ECE from Bapuji Polytechnic, Davanagere,
Karnataka in 2001. He obtained his B.E. degree in ECE from STJIT, Ranebennur, Karnataka
(VTU). He completed his M. Tech. in Digital Communications & Networking from Government
UBDT College of Engineering, Davanagere, Karnataka, and earned his Ph.D. in Electronics &
Communication Engineering from VTU, Belagavi in 2016. He has more than 20 years of
teaching experience, including 2 years of international experience in Oman.
Currently, he is pursuing his Postdoctoral Research from Finland in the field of
Artificial Intelligence (AI).
Dr. Rahul Kumar Gupta is an Assistant Professor at JSS University, Noida. He holds a Ph.D.
from Delhi Technological University (DTU), an M. Tech. in VLSI Design from IIT (ISM)
Dhanbad, a [Link]. in Electronics and Communication Engineering from DTU with a Gold
Medal, and a Diploma in ECE from Government Polytechnic Ghaziabad. With over 14 years of
academic and professional experience, he has published 10 SCI-indexed journal papers and
6 international conference papers, and holds 4 Indian patents. His research interests include
analog and digital integrated circuit design, memelements, VLSI systems, and mixed-signal
signal processing circuits.
Dr. Neha Yadav, an Assistant Professor, Department of CSE (AI&ML), at JSS University, Noida,
Dr. Neha Yadav is an academician, researcher, and AI consultant with more than seven years
of teaching and research experience in Computer Science and Engineering. She earned her
PhD and [Link] in Computer Science and Engineering from Jaypee Institute of Information
Technology (JIIT), Noida, as well as her [Link]. in Computer Science and Engineering from
Bundelkhand University, India.
Dr. Yadav is currently a postdoctoral fellow at Norta DeSyCo, Estonia, and an assistant
professor at CSE (AIML) Department, JSS University, Noida. She has expertise in artificial
intelligence, machine learning, data science, retrieval-augmented generation, and digital
healthcare.
Dr. Mayank Singh is currently working as HoD CSE (AI&ML) and CSE (Data Science) at JSS
University, Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. He also worked as a Director at Consilio Research Lab,
Tallinn, Estonia and prior as a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of KwaZulu-Natal,
Durban, South Africa. He has 22+ years of extensive experience in IT industry, Academics and
Research in India and abroad. He has published around 100+ research papers in peer
reviewed Transaction, Journals and Conferences of National and International repute and
has supervised 14 M. Tech and 9 PhD students. He is currently serving as Review Member,
Research Grants Council (RGC), Hong Kong (Research Council).
