Definitions
Registration Number: means a unique number allotted to a student on his / her admission in a
particular programme. Registration number of a student remains invariant throughout the duration
and upon completion of his / her programme at the University.
Scheme and Curriculum: It includes description of nature, duration, pedagogy, syllabus,
eligibility, credits, prerequisites and related details for all course codes of a programme.
LTP: means hours of Lecture, Tutorial and Practical of a course code that student shall be required
to attend per week in an academic term.
Examination: evaluation process conducted by Division of Examination; it means
written/oral/practical tests which a student undertakes in the form of CA/ETE/ETP.
Academic Misconduct and Use of Unfair Means: means any conduct by the student
knowingly/inadvertently which may gain an illegitimate advantage or benefit for him/herself or
any other person or which may create a disadvantage or loss for another student.
CGPA: means Cumulative Grade Point Average and it is an overall indicator of student academic
performance on a ten-point scale.
TGPA: means Term Grade Point Average that may include Annual Grade Point Average,
Semester Grade Point Average, or such any `other system of evaluation, as specified in the scheme
and curriculum of a particular course code or otherwise, based on the tenure of terms.
Continuous Assessment (CA): means evaluation of academic tasks allocated to the student by
the course instructor in the due course of academic term.
ETE: means End-Term Examination i.e. an examination conducted at the end of academic term
as specified in the academic calendar.
Marks/Grades: means student’s performance in an examination for a particular course code
which may be represented in the form of marks secured or grades.
Evaluation: means assessing the performance of the student for the registered course codes by the
means of CA/ETE/ETP.
Final Transcript: means the result card issued as per the prescribed format after the completion
of the programme. It contains the detailed the performance of a student in all the registered course
codes undertaken by the student throughout the programme duration.
Re-Appear: means allowing a student to appear for a supplementary examination of a course code
in subsequent regular term(s) or during summer breaks or otherwise. This re-appear examination
will have a weightage equal to weightage of ETE for the concerned course code.
Important Information regarding Evaluation Components and Grades

Components of Evaluation
1. Continuous Assessment (CA): This component evaluates a student's progress throughout a
prescribed course. CA aims at evaluating a student’s performance to gauge the essential
domains of development. It is a continuous process planned periodically in the form of tests or
assignments. The Continuous Assessment of online students shall be based on two
components:

To assess the performance of ONLINE students continuously, assignments shall be provided to
the students through Learning Management System – LPU LMS. After downloading and printing
the assignment questions, students are required to write the answers in their own handwriting
followed by scanning and uploading the same through CA submission interface of LMS as per the
stipulated timelines. Students shall be evaluated on the basis of their performance in these
assignments.
Important: However as per the requirements of the course, assignments to be allocated can be
replaced with tests as per the discretion of the course instructors. The structure of the test shall be
developed by the course instructor and shall be duly intimated to the students before the conduct
of the test (to be conducted on OAS or MyClass).
b. Academic Participation and Engagement:
The assessment of Academic Participation and Engagement component would be based on the
participation in scheduled LIVE virtual classes / pre-recorded video lectures / Attempting
corresponding quizzes / Discussion Forum etc. In order to ensure the academic participation
and engagement of online mode students, the attendance requirement in these activities has
been made a compulsory part of Continuous Assessment (CA) component.
Components of Academic Participation and Engagement Component
The 10% weightage assigned to Academic Participation and Engagement Component further
consists of the following elements:
i. Attending Live Virtual Classes
ii. Watching Pre-recorded Video lectures
iii. Attempting quizzes given after pre-recorded video lectures of each unit
iv. Participation in Course specific Discussion Forum
Student has to obtain minimum of 7.5 score out of 10 in the above activities combined
together
The scoring system for these components for a 4-credit course is given in the table below:

In order to be eligible to appear in End Term Exam of a particular term, the students must
have minimum aggregate score of 7.5 out of 10 in the course specific activities related to
Academic Participation and Engagement.
End Term Examination
End Term Theory Examination: End Term Examination shall be conducted by the university as
per the stipulated schedule. The pattern for question paper is detailed in the table given below:

End Term Practical Examination: The detail of evaluation parameters for Practical Exam is
given as below.

• Schedule of Practical Exam shall be intimated to students along with the date sheet for End
Term Examination
• The ETP shall be conducted in online mode via LPU MyClass platform.
• The Practical evaluation will be based on execution and individual viva.
• A group of 8-12 students will be evaluated by a single evaluator in 180 minutes.
• The faculty will be provided with an interface in UMS to punch the marks for the same.
Proctoring of Examination: The examination to be conducted shall be proctored and there shall
be continuous monitoring of candidates appearing in the examination by allocated faculty
members. The faculty members shall continuously view the allocated students for invigilation for
the complete duration of the Examination. In this regard the students shall ensure the following:
a. The webcam of the student is on and sending images during the complete duration of the
examination failing which the student shall be disqualified from the examination and shall
not be allowed to continue his/her examination.
b. In case the student attempts to navigate away from the examination window, after two
warnings the examination of the student shall be auto submitted.
c. In case a student is found using any unfair means during the examination by the proctor
including calling, messaging, using any other device the same shall be treated as an unfair
means case and necessary disciplinary action shall be taken.
d. In case the student is found misbehaving with proctoring Faculty or seeking any
unnecessary help, such a student shall be disqualified from the examination.
1.1 Provision of Re-appear/ Re-evaluation:
Re-appear: Student getting E grade in End Term Exam can register for Re-appear in any of the
subsequent End Term Exams scheduled by the university within the maximum duration of the
programme. Re-appear Fee would be as applicable from time to time.
Re-evaluation Provision for Online Mode Students: Students who are not satisfied with the result of
their End Term Examination have the option to apply for the Re-evaluation of their exam. The Re-
evaluation is applicable for Theory component only. The fee for Re-evaluation is Rs. 600/- per
course.
Students are required to register for Re-evaluation through an online interface available on LPU e-
Connect.

The fee must be deposited by the student online through e-Connect only. NO OTHER MODE OF
PAYMENT SHALL BE ACCEPTED.
In order to bring out more transparency in the evaluation process, re-evaluation fee shall be refundable
under the following condition:
There is a minimum increment of 12 marks subject to the condition that the student is passing in
the concerned course code.
Registration for both these provisions would be done only through e-Connect as per the dates
announced by the University from time to time.
2. Grading System: The University follows grading system to indicate the performance of the student
in each course. Following table depicts the details about various grades which shall be awarded to the
student for each course based on their performance in all the assessment activities and exams
pertaining to that particular course:

3.1 Calculation of Term Grade Point Average (TGPA) and Cumulative Grade Point Average
(CGPA)
A student’s overall academic performance within a given term or in all the courses completed is
measured by following indicators:
(a) Term Grade Point Average (TGPA):
The performance of a student in a particular term is measured by Term Grade Point Average (TGPA),
which is a weighted average of the grades secured in all the courses taken in a term and scaled to a
maximum 10. It is given by:
TGPA = CiGi / Ci,
where,
• Ci is the number of credits associated with the ith course of a term for which TGPA is to be calculated
• Gi is the grade points* earned in the ith course, and the summation extends over all the courses in
which grades (other than I) are obtained.
* Kindly refer to table given above to know the Grade points.
For instance, if a student is registered for one 5-credit course, three 4-credit courses, and one 3- credit
course during a term i.e. for a total of 20 credits, and he secures A, B, B, C, and D grades respectively,
in these courses, his TGPA will be as follows:
TGPA = (5x8 + 4x6 + 4x6 + 4x5 + 3x4) / 20= 120 / 20 = 6.00
(b) Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA):
• The Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) indicates the overall academic performance of a
student in all the courses registered up to and including the latest completed term.
• It is computed in the same manner as the TGPA but the summation extends over all courses in which
a student was registered up to and including the term for which CGPA is to be calculated.
• The calculation of TGPA / CGPA will include the credits for courses in which the student has been
awarded ‘E’ or ‘F’ grades.
• However, once a student repeats a course, only the latest grade and not the earlier grade(s) will enter
in to the computation of CGPA.
If an indicative percentage of marks is required, the following formula shall be used to calculate the same:
Indicative Equivalent Percentage of Marks = CGPA* 10.0
3. Passing Criteria
In order to achieve pass grade in a course the student must fulfil following minimum conditions:
(a) Theory only course: Score 30% marks in ETE along with 40% marks overall in all components
when combined together (CA and ETE).
(b) Theory and Practical course: Score 30% marks separately in ETE and ETP along with 40% marks
overall in all components when combined together (CA, ETE and ETP)
(c) Practical only course: Score 30% marks in ETP and achieve 40% marks when ETP and CA taken
together.
(d) Project / Dissertation / Term Paper based course: Score 40% marks in ETP
CGPA Condition: In addition to the above passing conditions, the student must achieve minimum
overall CGPA of 5 to complete the programme successfully.
