The Stages of Development and Development Task – Module 2 Task
1. Define developmental tasks in your own word.
- Development tasks refers to the tasks an individual is capable of in every period of their
life (prenatal, infancy, early childhood, middle and late childhood, adolescent, early
adulthood, middle adulthood and late adulthood. Development tasks are different and
can vary in every stages e.g. learning to walk and talk in infancy.
2. What are the implications of these developmental tasks to your role as a teacher and as a
parent? What are your supposed to in each stage?
As a teacher and as a parent, these developmental tasks have important implications on
how an individual develop as they progress in every development stage and should be
taken into account in every learning process as a teacher and in every nurturing
responsibilities as a parent. It is important, as guardians, that an individual, in their
development stages, achieve every milestone in their developmental tasks. It is also
important that an individual mustn’t skip a stage or risk delay in development. Consult a
specialist in case of delay in development tasks.
Early Childhood – As a teacher, I would make sure that a child hits their developmental
milestone such as learning to talk and walk, and facilitate an environment in which a child
is freely to express themselves. I would also exercise patience as a child in this stage are
more carefree and energized which can be challenging for a single individual to control.
As a parent, I would make sure that the child lives in a positive and nurturing environment
in which they are cared for. I would also assist and monitor in their development tasks.
Adolescence (High School) – As a teacher, I would assist in developing their cognitive and
metacognitive skills which are valuable skills needed as they progress to adulthood. I
would also guide them in good moral values and ethics in order for them to socially
responsible adults in the future. The adolescent stage is the stage wherein an individual is
curious about gender roles and sex. As a parent, I would educate in gender roles and
development, and their role in society and encourage them in freely expressing
themselves. I would also educate them in sex and the pros cons it entails.
Early Adulthood (College) – As a teacher, I would assist in refining their knowledge and
skills in their own respective field of interests, needed in future careers. As a parent, I
would ensure unconditional support and give advice but also encourage them to be
independent and make decisions for themselves.
Middle Adulthood – As a teacher and a parent, I would encourage them in pursuing what
they want to do in life and offer support and advice.
3. Middle Adulthood
What should adults do to obtain satisfaction in their careers?
- To obtain satisfaction in their careers, one’s career should offer financial stability
without compromising their own physical and mental health. One should also seek a
career that genuinely enjoy and would see doing for a long period of time.
What should schools teach students to be prepared for middle adulthood?
- Schools need to teach students to be prepared for middle adulthood such as pursuing
a fulfilling career, preparing for a family, being financially stable/responsible and the
responsibilities and roles of an adult in society.
4. Late Adulthood
In their retirement, adults should be financially capable of doing the things they think
they missed out on and also saved in case of emergencies. Adults in their retirement
should only be relaxing and living out the remaining day of their lives in peace.
