DSX-LAN Module
Programming and Commissioning the New DSX-LAN module

The DSX-LAN module now uses DHCP and a Discovery program called [Link]. The
[Link] program is located on the Software Flash Drive in the Utilities folder and can also be
found at the DSX ShareFile address of [Link]
This download link can also be found at [Link] In addition, the link provides
a program that will allow you to configure the module through a serial connection.

1. Power the module up and connect it to the network and it will request a DHCP IP address
assignment. Notice the MAC address on the sticker applied to the module as it will be used in the
next step. Power is 5VDC @ 350ma. Power from the 5VDC output of the CDM or 1022 Controller.

2. Run the [Link] program. Click on the "Search Again" button. Using the MAC address find
the New DSX-LAN Module in the IPSetup discovery window and click on it. In the example below the
module with 09-4D-81 DHCP'd to IP Address [Link]. Click on Launch Webpage and login with
User master and Password master and proceed to Step 5 or instead of logging through the web page
- go to step 3

3. Enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask, Gateway, and DNS addresses into the Settings Window of the
IPSetup program. With the unit we want to program highlighted, click on the "Set" button and Enter
User master and Password master. This will transfer the settings on the left to the unit highlighted on
the right. That unit will then disappear from the Discovery Window. Wait 15 Seconds and then click on
"Search Again".

4. You will now see the same DSX-LAN module again in the Discovery Window with the IP Address
assigned from the Settings on the left. Click on the "Launch Webpage" button. Once the module is
programmed a Browser can be used without the [Link] program. Log in with User master and
Password master.

5. Once logged in through the

Webpage you will see the following:
Verify the IP Address, Subnet Mask,
Gateway, and DNS Server.
If you make changes click on
"Submit New Settings" to save.
To change these settings the
Addressing Mode must be Static.

6. Under UDP Settings set the

Receive Port (this is the TX IP Port
from the Comm Port settings at the
Comm Server). See examples page.

6a. Leave the Transmit Port at 0 and

check "Learn UDP Reply Port" or
Set the Transmit Port to the same
port number as the RX IP Port on the
Comm Port at the Comm Server and
uncheck "Learn UDP Reply Port".
See examples page.

6b. Enter the Comm Servers IP Address in "Send to this IP Address" and uncheck "Learn UDP
Reply Address" or leave it blank and check the "Learn UDP Reply Address". See examples on
page 4.

7. Click on "Submit New Settings" to save. You must save your settings before going to another
screen or your settings will be lost.

8. Link Speed / Duplex is defaulted to Auto Negotiate. This allows the unit to connect as fast as
possible to the switch it is connected to. Only change this if required.

9. On the Security Tab set the User Name and Password and the Admin User Name and Password.
Be careful not to lock yourself out of the module. It will have to be shipped to DSX to be reset.

9a. The User Name and

Password will allow the
changing of the Network
Settings only.
User -123456
Password - 123456

Use the Password Format

section to set the complexity and
length of both passwords. 6 to
19 keyboard characters.

9b. The Admin User Name and

Password allow the changing of
the Security Settings and the
Network Settings.
User - master
Password - master

10. The Security Log Settings

allow for an optional IP Address
and Port to be defined. Once
defined The module will send all
Login attempts and notification
of changes made to that Log
address. Each time you switch
between pages it will send a login. Enter the IP Address and IP Port number to send the information.
This is not the Comm Server Address.

10a. Enter the number of seconds that the module will send a supervisory message to the Security
Log IP Address. This continual heartbeat supervises the communication and notification path for the
Security Log.

10b. Enter the UTC time zone so these logs have the proper time and date stamp.
-6 for Central Time, -5 for Eastern Time, -7 for Mountain Time, and -8 for Pacific Time

10c. Enter the IP Address of the Time Server where the module can get the proper time.
If you enter a NTP Time Server IP Address you must restart (repower) the module.

10d. Click on "Display System Time" to get the time from the module. Enter the time if a Time
Server is not available. Once you have entered the date and time click on "Manually Set System
Time". Once the Time has been set manually do not power the module down and up.

11. Once the Passwords and Log Settings have been entered click on "Submit New Settings".
When completely finished, close the Browser completely.

Examples of Comm Server Settings and corresponding UDP Settings of the DSX-LAN
The following are screen shots of comm ports at the comm server (below and to the left). To the right
of those are the UDP settings of the LAN module that are necessary for that configuration at the
comm server.

Example 1: This Comm Port at the comm server has no RX IP Port # configured (typical)

Example 2: This Comm Port has both the TX and RX IP Port configured (preferred)

How to Program the DSX-LAN through a Serial Port
1. Connect the module to a serial port. Run the "[Link]" program.

2. Enter the Com Port number the module is connected to and click OK.

3. You will get a message to "Reset" or you can "Power Up" the module.

4. Enter the IP Address, Subnet Mask,

Gateway, and DNS addresses.

5. Click on Submit to Save. This process can

be repeated to check and change the
module settings.

6. This is enough information to get the

DSX-LAN module deployed. The Webpage
and a browser can be used to program the
other parameters.

DSX-LAN Module Power

The DSX-LAN module requires 5VDC at 350ma from the 5VDC power output of the DSX-1022
Controller or the 5VDC output of the DSX-1040 CDM.

Mounting the DSX-LAN

The DSX LAN Module can be located inside the 1040E or 1022E equipment enclosure. The Module
conveniently fits in the bottom of the enclosure of the panel it is connected to. There are mounting
studs located on the inside of door to the 1040E enclosure that will allow the DSX-LAN module to be
mounted using the holes located on the mounting flange of the Module.
