transmission line. Justify your answer.
3. School Fence Alignment: A school wants to put a straight fence passing through three
poles placed at A (1, 2), B (3, 6) and C (5, 10). The contractor must check whether the
poles are already in a straight line. Justify your answer.
4. Name the figure obtained by joining the points B(5, 3), E(5,1), S(0, 1) and T(0, 3). Also
find the area of the figure.
5. Plot the point P(–5, 4) and from it draw PM and PN as perpendicular to x-axis and y-
axis respectively. Write the coordinates of the points M and N.

4. PQR is an equilateral triangle in the coordinate axes and coordinates of Q and R are
(0,4) and (0,-4). Find the coordinates of the vertex P.

1. If (1, 2), (4, y), (x, 6) and (3, 5) are the vertices of a parallelogram taken in order, find x

3. Find the lengths of the medians of a ∆ABC whose vertices are A(7,-3), B(5,3) and
C(3,-1).
4. The given figure shows a right triangle BOA in which C is the mid-point of the
hypotenuse AB. Show that the point C is equidistant from the vertices O, A and B.

5. Shopping Mall Location: Two colonies are located at A (-2, 6) and B (10, -4). A mall is
to be built at a point exactly halfway between them so that both colonies have equal
access.
(i) Find the coordinates of the mall.
(ii) Check whether the mall lies on the x-axis, y-axis, or in a quadrant.

find the area of it.
2. In rectangle OABC, point O is the origin OA = 10 units along x-axis, AB = 8 units.
Find the co-ordinates of vertices A,B and C.
3. Plot the points A(5,3), B(-2,3),D(5, -4) which are three vertices of a square ABCD.
Hence find the co-ordinates of C. Also find the area of it.
4. If the point P(k-1, 2) is equidistant from the points A(3, k) and B(k, 5), find the values
of k.
5. ABC is a triangle coordinates of whose vertex A are (0, -1). D and E respectively are
the mid-points of the sides AB and AC and their coordinates are (1, 0) and (0, 1)
respectively. If F is the midpoint of BC, find the coordinates of B, C and F.

1. A circle has its centre at the origin O(0,0).
(i) If a point A(3,-4) lies on the circle, calculate the radius.

(i) If this triangle is reflected in the y-axis to form triangle A'D'M', write the new

(ii) Prove that the length of the side AD remains the same after reflection by calculating
the distance A'D'.
3. If two vertices of an equilateral triangle are (3, 0) and (6, 0), find the third vertex.

Arun is participating in an 8-miles walk. The organizers used a square coordinate grid to
plot the course. The starting point is at A (3, 1). At B (3, 4), there's a water station to
make sure the walkers stay hydrated.
From water station, the walkway turns right and at C(6, 4), a garden is situated to keep
walkers fresh. From the garden, the walkway turns left and finally, Arun reaches at
destination D to complete 8 miles.
Based on the above information, answer the following questions:
(i) How far is the water station B from the starting point A?
(ii) How far is the water station B from garden C?
(iii) What is the abscissa of destination point D?
(iv) What are the coordinates of destination point D?
CASE STUDY – 7
National Park: A national park is an area set aside by the government to preserve and
protect natural environment.
The graph below shows a map of the National Park. The shaded areas indicate woods.
The plain areas indicate meadows and fields without trees. Point O on the graph
represents the location of the park's supervisor's office, and points P and Q are the
ranger's towers.
(1) Find the distance between the towers P(0,7.5) and Q(-15, 15)
(ii) Find the distance of the point S(5, 25) from x-axis.
(iii) Find the point on x-axis (other than O) equidistant from the points R(0, - 5) and M(0,
5)
(iv) There are two trees T1 (- 5, 7) and T2 (- 1, 3) in the park. Find the coordinates of the
mid-point of the line segment joining both the trees.
