📌 IMPORTANT NOTE: REGROUPING

In Standard 1, students will also learn addition and subtraction with


regrouping.

Meaning:
Regrouping means carrying over in addition or borrowing in subtraction.

➕ Example:

18 + 7 = 25

➖ Example:

12 − 5 = 7

📌 IMPORTANT NOTE FOR LEARNING AND PRACTICE

The numbers and questions in this study guide may vary in difficulty.
Teachers will adjust the questions according to Standard 1 and Infant
level abilities, starting from simple problems and gradually moving to more
challenging ones as students improve.

➕ 1. ADDITION

Meaning: Putting numbers together to find the total.


Key word: plus (+)
Example: 3 + 2 = 5

➖ 2. SUBTRACTION

Meaning: Taking away from a number.


Key word: minus (−)
Example: 5 − 2 = 3

📖 3. WORD PROBLEMS
Meaning: Story problems where you decide to add or subtract.
Example: 4 apples + 3 apples = 7 apples

🧮 4. NUMBER SENTENCES

Meaning: A math statement using numbers and symbols.


Example: 6 + 2 = 8

🔢 5. MISSING NUMBER SENTENCES

Meaning: A number sentence with a missing number.


Example: 5 + ___ = 8

📊 6. COMPARING NUMBERS

Meaning: Shows which number is bigger or smaller.


Symbols:

< less than

Examples:

Meaning: Finding missing numbers in a sequence.


Example: 1, 2, __, 4, 5

🔁 8. COUNTING BACKWARDS

Example: 10, 9, 8, 7, 6…

Meaning: Value of digits in a number.


 Tens = groups of 10

 Ones = single units

Example: 34 = 3 tens and 4 ones
