PRESENT – Questions about the OBJECT
Structure WH + do/does + subject + verb (infinitive)
Example Where do you live?
Example Why does she like pizza?
PRESENT – Questions about the SUBJECT
Structure: WH + VERB (no auxiliary)
Example: Who lives here?
Example: What happened?
PAST – Questions about the OBJECT
Structure WH + did + subject + verb (infinitive)
Example Where did you go yesterday?
Example Why did they leave early?
PAST – Questions about the SUBJECT
Structure: WH + VERB in past (no auxiliary)
Example: Who called you?
Example: What happened yesterday?
SPECIAL CASE – VERB TO BE
Structure: WH + am/is/are/was/were + subject
Example (present): Where is she?
Example (past): Why were they late?
TIP: If the WH-word is the SUBJECT, do NOT use do/does/did.
