Math Concepts with Examples
1. Quadratic Expressions – Negative Exponent
Example:
x⁻² = 1 / x²
Explanation: A negative exponent means reciprocal of the base raised to the positive
exponent.
2. Algebraic Expressions
a) Simplify Expressions:
3x + 5x - 2 = 8x - 2
b) Solving Linear Equation:
2x + 3 = 11 → 2x = 8 → x = 4
3. Congruent Quadrilaterals – Find a, b, c, d
Example:
If two quadrilaterals are congruent:
Angle A = a = 90°, B = b = 80°, then matching angles in the second quadrilateral are c = 90°,
d = 80°.
Use CPCTC (Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles)
4. Probability
Example:
A bag has 3 red balls, 2 blue balls.
P(red) = 3 / (3 + 2) = 3/5
5. Total Surface Area of Pyramid
Example (Square Pyramid):
Base side = 4 cm, Slant height = 6 cm
TSA = Base Area + Lateral Area
= 4² + 4 × ½ × 4 × 6 = 16 + 48 = 64 cm²
6. Rectangular Pyramid Samples/Shape
A rectangular pyramid has:
- Rectangle base (e.g., 6 cm × 4 cm)
- 4 triangular faces meeting at the apex
Shape: 3D solid with 5 faces (1 rectangle + 4 triangles)
7. Exterior Angles of a Pentagon
Formula: Sum of exterior angles = 360°
Regular Pentagon → Each exterior angle = 360° / 5 = 72°
