3.2. How to make a story book for nursery students (Forest Animals)
This section includes the steps to prepare a story book lesson using Canva app. These steps
will help you to create a storybook, to be used in an English class for nursery students. The
purpose is to provide question and answer sections among the teacher and students in which
the students are supposed to answer the animal seen in the forest presented in each slide and
what it is doing. To present the story line, the presentation template will be used to create the
story with some music.
30
Steps:
1. Open “Canva” application in mobile and select “Presentations” button. The ready-made
templates for presentations will be shown and there are several options/types for
presentations such as Presentation (16:9), Talking Presentation, Mobile-First
Presentation, etc., Sample templates for each presentation type can be found by
scrolling the page. (Figure 3.16)
Select “Presentation (16:9)” and it will be redirected to a page where you can create a
presentation by starting from scratch, upon clicking “Plus (+)” icon, or applying the
templates. The templates can also be filtered by style, theme and/or color. Among the
themes, you can find “Education”, “Business”, “Corporate” and many more. In this
lesson, you would like to demonstrate how to create a presentation from scratch and so
“Plus (+)” button is selected. (Figure 3.17)
31
2. Blank template will be provided so that you can customize with any background and
elements. To add a background which matches well with the forest theme, click “(+)”
button (Figure 3.18).
3. Select “Elements” and then choose the forest image to be used for the introduction
section. (Figure 3.19) Then, add the teacher illustration by clicking “(+)” button,
clicking “Elements” and searching for teacher images with the keyword “teacher” in
the search bar. (Figure 3.20) Other elements such as the animals and comment box can
be added by following the same steps applied for the “teacher” image. (Figure 3.21)

4. Duplicate the first page to get the same layout and contents for the second page. In the
second page, you are going to have the similar layout but keep only the image of the
teacher and the question. Therefore, unnecessary elements should be deleted by clicking
“Delete” button. (Figure 3.22)
32
Figure 3.22. Deleting unnecessary
elements from the second page
5. Add another page by clicking “(+)” button beside the first page. For this page, you are
going to have a different layout from the first and second ones to prepare the page in
which the answer of a student will be displayed. Click on the page, select the color on
the bottom bar and choose the light green color from the color palette. After that, choose
a different styled element for forest theme and position it at the center of the page.
(Figure 3.23.). Copy the illustration/image of animalfrom the first page by clicking
“Copy” and then click “Paste” it on the third page. Then, add a square frame from the
elements and insert the answer text which is the answer from a student. (Figure 3.24.)
6. For the next page (question), it’s supposed to be a question page (same as the second
page) and so you will copy the second page and then paste to the fourth page. (Figure
33
3.25) (Note: Although you can simply duplicate a page by dragging and dropping to
the desired position in web version, this is not possible in the mobile app version.)
7. For another page (answer), you can copy the third page, replace the animal with a new
animal and change the answer text. (Figure 3.26.)
8. Repeat the steps 6 & 7 until all the animals are included. Finally, copy and paste the
first page and change the text in the comment box to “Thank You All!” (Figure 3.27.)
34

this lesson, “Cream and Brown Simple Light Arts Bio-Link Website” template is
applied because of its simplicity. (Figure 3.51.)
2. A sample webpage will be provided and you can customize any graphics, texts and add
internal (another section) or external links. On the home page, it will present the overview
information about the whole website and the hyperlinks to the sections, which will also be

Annex I: Understanding the basics of images, audio files and video files
Image Basics
In this section, you will focus on the basic information for images which refer to digital
images. The purpose of this section is to gain understanding of images, audios and videos better
and they can choose the media suited more for the product and the Internet connection in
Myanmar when preparing instructional materials.
Pixel
According to Oxford Dictionary, pixel is the smallest unit of an image on a Television
and screen. Many pixels make up an image and the size of the image is usually specified
as width x height, in numbers of pixels. The physical size of the image, in inches or centimeters
or whatever, depends on the resolution of the device on which the image is displayed.
Resolution
The term resolution refers to how many pixels are displayed per inch of an image and
typically expressed as a horizontal x vertical measurement. Resolution is usually measured in
terms of DPI, which stands for dots per inch. An image will appear smaller (and generally
sharper) on a device with a higher resolution than on one with a lower resolution. It is important
61
to understand the distinction between this number, which expresses a preferred DPI for
displaying the image, and the size of the image, which gives the number of pixels in the image.
Transparency
Image transparency refers to an image that is clear and can take the effect of any images
behind it. For example, GIF and PNG are the image formats that support transparency while
JPEG or JPG does not.
Aspect Ratio
An aspect ratio is a proportional relationship between an image's width and height.
Essentially, it describes an image's shape. It is defined as a formula of width to height (3:2).
For example, a square image has an aspect ratio of 1:1, since the height and width are the same.
62
iPhones, Smart TVs, etc. The compression feature of MP3 saves a lot of space while it still
maintains good quality of the original sound.
▪ WAV
WAV stands for “Waveform Audio File Format” and it is an uncompressed audio file
that stores waveform data. Though it can be compressed, the default is in uncompressed
format. WAV was developed by Microsoft and IBM and it runs mainly in Windows
operating systems although it can be opened in Mac systems without any issues.
▪ WMA
WMA stands for “Windows Media Audio”, is an alternative to MP3 file type and
supports lossless compression. It is less popular than MP3 as it can be used in Windows
operation system and accessible to Windows users only. Still, there are some workarounds
to open WMA files in other operating systems by installing third-party applications that
support WMA.
