Division means equal sharing or equal grouping.
Terms related to division –
1. The number to be divided is called the dividend.
2. The number by which we divide is called the divisor.
3. The result obtained on division is called the quotient.
4. The number which is left undivided is called the remainder.

Checking Division –
Dividend = ( Divisor × Quotient ) + Remainder
247 = ( 5 × 49 ) + 2
Properties of Division –
1. When any number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.
Examples: 62 ÷ 1 = 62
135 ÷ 1 = 135
2. When any number is divided by itself, the quotient is 1.
Examples: 64 ÷ 64 = 1
201 ÷ 201 = 1
3. When zero is divided by any number, quotient is always 0.
Examples: 0 ÷ 12 = 0
0 ÷ 122 = 0
4. Division by zero is not defined.
