Overview
This module focuses on how to name the different places in Español.
Moreover, conjugation of regular verbs ending in -ir will be discussed.

In this lesson, students are expected to:
1. Translate the names of places in Spanish;
2. Learn how to use the regular verbs ending in -ir; and
3. Use the correct subject pronoun and correct verb form in speaking and
writing in Spanish.

A. Vocabulario: Naming different places in the area
¿Dónde está la farmacia? Where is the pharmacy?
Learning the names of different places in Spanish will enable you to talk to Spanish
native speakers and will help you easily navigate in a foreign place/area.

B. Grammar: The regular verb -IR
In Modules 5 and 6, we have discussed the subject pronouns and the
conjugation of regular verbs ending in -ar and -er, consecutively.
Meanwhile, this module will focus on the forms of the regular verbs ending in
-ir.
Before you can conjugate regular verbs ending in -er, let us first review the
subject pronouns.
Remember: Subject pronouns refer to the persons or things doing the action.
Singular Plural
nosotros we (masc.)
yo I
nosotras we (fem.)
vosotros you all (familiar, masc.)
tú you (familiar)
vosotras you all (familiar, fem.)
él he ellos they (masc.)
ella she ellas they (fem.)
usted you are (formal) ustedes you all (formal)
Tú, usted (singular), and ustedes (plural) mean you.
Tú is the familiar form of you. This is used when you are speaking to someone
you know such as friends, cousins, and members of your family.
Usted is used when you are talking to a person whom you are not familiar, a
stranger, any older person, instructor, professor, and the like. If you speak to two
or more persons who deserve much respect and formality, then, use ustedes.
The regular verbs ending in -ER

Remember the following endings when you conjugate the regular verbs ending
in -ir.
Yo -o
Tú -es
Él/ella/usted -e
Nosotros/as -imos
Vosotros/as -ís
Ellos/ellas/ustedes -en
Study and familiarize yourself with the following regular verbs ending in -er.
admitir to admit existir to exist
añadir to add inducir to induce/to persuade
aplaudir to applaud intoducir to introduce
asistir to assist insistir to insist
cubrir to cover omitir to omit/to leave out
cumplir to accomplish partir to leave/to cut
dirigir to direct permitir to allow
discrutir to discuss subir to go up/to ascend
dividir to divide sufrir to suffer
