I sincerely thank my Geography teacher for assigning this project on rocks. This work
helped me understand the Earth's structure and the role of rocks in shaping our planet. I am
grateful to my school, my parents, reference books, and modern technology tools for their
support and guidance throughout the project.
Introduction to Rocks
Rocks are natural masses made of one or more minerals. They form an important part of the
Earth's crust and may be hard like granite or loose like sand and clay.
Rocks and Minerals
Minerals are naturally occurring substances with a fixed chemical composition, while rocks
are combinations of one or more minerals. Therefore, minerals make up rocks.
Types of Rocks
Igneous Rocks, Sedimentary Rocks, and Metamorphic Rocks.
Original Story: The Council of Stone
Once every century, rocks from different parts of Earth met in a place called Stone Circle
Valley. Rina the River Rock explained that she formed from sediments carried by rivers.
Lakey the Lake Rock shared that she developed on the floor of a calm lake. Frostor the
Glacial Rock had travelled with moving ice before being deposited. Windor the Aeolian Rock
was created from sand moved by powerful winds. Maris the Marine Rock formed deep
beneath the sea. Then came Igno, born when molten magma cooled and hardened. Sedra, a
sedimentary rock, described how layers of sediments slowly turned into stone. Finally,
Marblea arrived. She revealed that she had once been a different rock, but heat and pressure
transformed her into a metamorphic rock. The gathering ended with the rocks realizing that
although their journeys were different, all of them were connected through Earth's rock
cycle.
