Paragraph 1: Introduction
My name is a student studying Khmer Literature at university. I am currently in my first year,
and this semester I had the opportunity to study English for Specific Purposes (ESP). At the
very beginning of the semester, I felt both scared and excited about learning English. I was
scared because English is a foreign language for me, and I was not confident in my ability to
communicate well. However, I was also excited because I knew that English is very important
for my future career as a Khmer Literature expert. I told myself that I would try my best, even
if it was difficult.
Paragraph 2: My Favorite Lessons
During this semester, I learned many useful things, but the two most important lessons for
me were public speaking and grammar. First, I learned how to speak in front of an audience.
Before this course, I was very nervous about speaking in public. However, after practicing
presentations in class, I became more confident. This skill is very useful because, as a Khmer
Literature expert, I will need to present my research and ideas to others. Second, I also
improved my understanding of English grammar. Learning grammar helped me write clearer
sentences and communicate my thoughts more accurately. I believe both of these skills will
help me greatly in my academic and professional life.
Paragraph 3: Challenges and Solutions
The hardest parts of this course for me were writing, listening, translation, and grammar.
Writing was difficult because I had to think in English and organize my ideas clearly.
Listening was also challenging because native English speakers talk very fast, and I could not
always understand every word. Translation was hard because some Khmer ideas do not
easily translate into English. To improve, I tried to practice every day. I watched English
YouTube videos with subtitles to help my listening skills. I also practiced writing short
paragraphs at home and asked my friends to check my work. Slowly, I began to feel more
comfortable, even though I know I still have much more to learn.
Paragraph 4: Future Goals
English will help me study Khmer Literature more deeply next year. Many important
research papers and books about linguistics, literature theory, and cultural studies are
written in English. If I can read and understand English well, I will be able to learn from these
international resources and apply new ideas to my study of Khmer Literature. My goal for
Semester 2 is to improve my writing skills and to become more confident when speaking
English in class. I also want to learn more vocabulary related to literature and research. I
believe that if I keep working hard and practicing regularly, I will achieve my goals and
become a better student and future Khmer Literature expert.
