Leadership Lessons I Learned About Myself as an Entrepreneur

I learned a lot about leadership and how it affects entrepreneurial success throughout
this course on entrepreneurship. Before enrolling in this course, I thought of
leadership mostly as the capacity to oversee others and guide actions toward a
particular objective. However, I discovered that leadership entails much more than
authority or decision-making by researching entrepreneurial leadership and creating
my business idea, EduTrack Learning Network.
Vision, flexibility, empowerment, resilience, and ongoing learning are necessary for
effective leadership. According to contemporary leadership studies, effective leaders
must constantly build on their strengths and adjust to shifting organizational
circumstances (Advani & Mergenthaler, 2024). Several of the leadership quotations
from Kruse (2012) caught my attention as I thought about them since they closely
matched the self-discoveries I made during this course.
The first thing I learnt about leadership is how important it is to have a clear vision.
Warren Bennis once said, "Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality"
(Kruse, 2012, para. 6). This comment struck a particularly deep chord with me. In
order to create EduTrack, I had to look beyond a straightforward educational software
and envision a more expansive educational technology network that could support
students in forming lifetime learning habits.
discovered that entrepreneurs need to develop a vision that motivates others as well as
themselves. Long-term planning, goal-setting, and decision-making are all guided by
a distinct vision. It becomes challenging to stay focused or inspire people to embrace
an idea in the absence of a vision.
I learned through this project that I like coming up with innovative solutions and
turning concepts into viable business opportunities. This event reaffirmed the notion
that strategic thinking and the capacity to direct people toward a common goal are
essential components of leadership (Liden et al., 2024).
The second thing I discovered is that, as opposed to managing people, leadership is
about empowering them. "Leaders will be those who empower others," according to
Bill Gates (Kruse, 2012, para. 47). This quotation made me reevaluate how I view
leadership and made me realize that successful businesspeople can't do it all by
themselves.
I envisioned collaborating with instructors, franchise partners, tech experts, and
students while creating EduTrack in order to continuously enhance the platform.
People feel appreciated, trusted, and inspired to share their skills in situations created
by effective leaders. I discovered that entrepreneurial leadership entails supporting the
development and success of others rather than concentrating on personal
accomplishment.
This session emphasized the value of teamwork and demonstrated how empowering
individuals can benefit communities and organizations. According to research, rather
than depending only on power or status, modern leadership increasingly emphasizes
fostering others' potential and talents (Advani & Mergenthaler, 2024).
The value of resilience and flexibility is the third thing I've learned. Uncertainty,
quick technical advancement, and changing consumer demands define modern
entrepreneurial situations. I regularly updated and refined my company plan during
this semester in response to criticism, fresh information, and research. I learned from
these experiences that successful business owners need to be adaptable and receptive
to change.
John F. Kennedy's assertion that "Leadership and learning are indispensable to each
other" (Kruse, 2012, para. 68) is one leadership quotation that embodies this lesson. In
marketplaces that are always changing, entrepreneurs who stop learning run the risk
of becoming obsolete. I discovered that flexibility is a strength that enables leaders to
effectively handle opportunities and difficulties rather than a sign of weakness.
This way of thinking has inspired me to see failures as opportunities for growth rather
than as barriers. In today's quickly changing corporate environment, the capacity to
adapt and continuously learn is regarded as a vital leadership characteristic (Liden et
al., 2024).
The fourth thing I've learnt is that leadership entails helping and encouraging people.
According to Max DePree, a leader's first duty is to define reality. Lastly, express
gratitude. The leader is a servant in the interim (Kruse, 2012, para. 5). Before taking
this course, I frequently connected leadership to power and accountability. But I now
realize that effective leaders put their teams' and stakeholders' needs first.
Improving students' academic performance and learning habits is the main objective
of EduTrack. This student-centered strategy embodies the notion that leadership
should prioritize generating value for others. I discovered that the positive effects a
company has on clients, staff, and communities are just as important to
entrepreneurial success as financial gains.
Stronger leadership efficacy and organizational success are correlated with the
development of empathy, integrity, and service-oriented leadership traits (Advani &
Mergenthaler, 2024).
In conclusion,
This training greatly broadened my perspective on entrepreneurship and leadership. I
gained an understanding of the significance of vision, empowerment, flexibility, and
service by creating the EduTrack Learning Network and researching entrepreneurial
leadership concepts. My understanding of my strengths and the kind of entrepreneur I
want to be has improved as a result of these learnings.
