responses about your peer’s essay on this document for your grade when finished AND send your
responses to the peer whose paper you are editing.
Title:
Is it interesting? Does it give the reader a sense of what the essay will be about?
Thesis:
Does the thesis follow the rules discussed in the content? Why or why not?
Is the thesis statement in the correct location? If not, where should it be? If yes, where is it?
Does the thesis provide the reader with what the paper is about? How could the thesis be improved?
Structure and Organization:
Does the introduction make you want to read the essay? What could the writer do to improve the thesis?
Does each body paragraph have a topic sentence which makes a claim that the paragraph proves?
Read the thesis, followed by each topic sentence. Do all topic sentences relate to the thesis statement?
Why or why not?
Does the evidence prove the claims, and is the evidence analyzed properly? Why or why not?
Does each paragraph end with a conclusion sentence?
Does the conclusion add something to the paper? Does it answer a “so what” question? Does it rely too
heavily on summary? Does it end on a powerful note? Does it connect to the introduction?
Style:
Does the writer use any summary or include unnecessary information? If so, indicate what should be
removed.
