►Lines in the Coordinate Plane


(1) On a non-vertical line all segments have the same gradient.
Three or more points that lie on the same straight line are said to be collinear.

The product in the direction are given positive signs and the products in the direction
are given negative signs.

If it takes the vertices in an anticlockwise direction around the shape, then the inside of the
modulus sign will be positive.
If it takes the vertices in a clockwise direction around the shape, then the inside of the
modulus sign will be negative.

1. Find the distance between these points in surd form and find the mid-point of these points.
(a) A (‒3 , 7) and B (6, ‒2).

2. The distance between two points P(7, a) and Q(a+1, 9) is 15. Find the possible values of a.

3. The coordinate of the mid-point of the line segment joining A(-5, 11) and B(p, q) are

4. Three of the vertices of a parallelogram ABCD are A(-10, 1), B(6, -2), C(14, 4).
(a) Find the mid-point of AC.
(b) Find the coordinate of D.
