If an animal is trying to eat the lizard, it will puff up, kind of like a balloon, and that will make the scales stick out. And when these spiny scales are sticking out, it's hard for other animals to swallow the lizard. The horned lizard has other ways of protecting itself also. One of these ways is called camouflage. Does everyone remember what camoufiage is? No? Okay, well, camouflage is when an animal blends into its surroundings. The horned lizard does this really well. The horned lizard usually lives in deserts, and it is a, um, a brownish color. The lizard’s color allows it to blend into the desert, Some kinds of horned lizard have yet another way of protecting themselves. Now, this is kind of gross, but some of these lizards can shoot blood out of the corners of their eyes. This really confuses their predators. So all this stuff creates what scientists are calling global warming. Earth's surface and atmosphere just keep getting hotter. Now global warming has many negative effects, but | think one of the biggest problems with global warming is the melting of polar ice caps and glaciers. See, our planet has huge chunks of ice at both of its poles. And when global warming happens, um, the overall temperature of the planet increases. And what this does is it makes polar ice melt. So when ice melts, it turns into water, which goes into our oceans. And that causes the level of water to rise. And this could also cause major flooding.
