Definition of Teaching Methods:
Teaching methods are the systematic procedures employed by
teachers to present subject matter and facilitate student learning.
Or,
Teaching methods refer to the general principles, pedagogy, and
management strategies used for classroom instruction.
Methods of teaching
1. The Lecture Methods: A traditional teaching approach in which the
teacher delivers information orally to a group of students, typically with
minimal interaction, while learners listen and take notes. It is commonly
used to present theoretical knowledge, explain concepts, and provide
overviews of subject matter.
Use/ purpose :

❖To introduce a subject
❖To give direction on procedure
❖To present basic material

2. The Discussion Methods: A teaching strategy in which students and
teachers exchange ideas, opinions, and questions about a topic in a structured
and purposeful manner. It encourages active participation, critical thinking,
and collaborative learning through verbal interaction.
Use/ purpose :

❖To Supports democratic classroom practices
❖To encourage critical thinking,
❖To allow students to express their viewpoints

3. The Demonstration Methods: The demonstration method is a
teaching strategy in which the teacher (or a student) shows how a process,
skill, or experiment is performed, while students observe and analyze the
procedure.
Use/ purpose :
❖ to clearly show students how a process or skill is performed,
❖ allowing them to observe correct techniques,
❖ understand procedures, and later apply the skill themselves.

4. Role Playing: Role playing is a teaching method in which students
assume the roles of characters in simulated situations to better understand
human interactions, explore different perspectives, and practice social or
problem-solving skills.
Use/ purpose :
❖ to help students understand different perspectives,
❖To develop social and emotional skills,
❖ To practice decision-making in realistic situations,
❖To gain insight into human behavior through active participation.

5. Brain Storming: Brainstorming is a group creativity technique in
which students and teachers freely suggest ideas, solutions, or responses to a
specific question or problem, without immediate criticism or evaluation

❖To stimulate creative thinking,
❖To encourage equal participation,
❖To build a shared understanding of a topic.

6. Case Study: A case study is an in-depth examination of a real-life
situation, used to help students analyze complex issues and apply
knowledge.
Use/ purpose :
❖ To connect theory with practice.
❖develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
