"Welcome everyone to Cem English! I am so excited to meet you all. Today is our first day,
and our goal is simple: get to know each other, dust off the English you already know, and
set the vibe for this course. Today is about fluency over accuracy. We are going to speak,
move, and play. Let’s jump right in!"
The Hook: "Find Someone Who..." (15 min)
Teacher-Coach Note: Prep: Before class, print a 5x5 grid worksheet for each student with
prompts in each square (e.g., ...has visited another country, ...has a pet, ...loves pizza).
"Okay, team! Stand up! We are going to play a game to see who is in the room. I am giving
you each a worksheet. Your mission is to walk around the room and find a different person
for each square. But here is the rule: you cannot just show them your paper! You must ask
the question."
"For example, look at the square that says 'has a pet'. How do we ask that? Exactly: 'Do you
have a pet?' If it says 'has visited another country', we ask, 'Have you ever visited another
country?' When someone says 'Yes', write their name in the square. Go, go, go!"
● Debrief (5 min): Bring them back to their seats. "Stop! Alright, let's see. Who found
someone who has a pet? Marco, tell the class about Sarah's dog." (This forces them
to practice the 3rd person singular: "Sarah has a dog.")
Inductive Presentation: The Student Profile (15 min)
Teacher-Coach Note: Prep: Print a simple fill-in-the-blank template: Name: ___, Age: ___,
Job: ___, Hobbies: ___. "Now, let’s look inward. I am handing out a 'Student Profile'
template. I want you to take 5 minutes right now to write down your basic information: your
name, age, job, and hobbies. But here is the catch—I want you to write down one unusual
fact about yourself under 'Hobbies.' Maybe you collect vintage spoons? Maybe you hate
chocolate? Write it down now."
(Give them time to write. Monitor and assist with vocabulary).
"Great. Now, before we introduce ourselves, look at the board. Instead of just saying 'I
like...', let's upgrade our English. Use: 'I'm into...' or 'I am passionate about...'. Let's hear
from you! Read from your profile and introduce yourself to the class."
Speech Lab: The "Schwa" & Linking (5 min)
Teacher-Coach Note: Use this to fix the pronunciation mistakes you just heard during their
introductions.
"Listen to me carefully: 'I want to be a pilot.' Did I say 'To' and 'A' like a robot? No. It sounds
like /tə/ and /ə/. In English, these little words become weak. Let's practice linking our jobs.
Repeat after me: 'I'm a teacher' /aɪmə ti:tʃər/."
● Action: Have them quickly turn to their partner and say their job title using that
smooth, linked sound.
The Skill Lab: Vocabulary Activation - "What’s in the
Bag?" (15 min)
Teacher-Coach Note: Prep: Bring a dark, non-transparent bag filled with 10-15 random
everyday objects (a pen, keys, a stapler, sunglasses, a spoon, etc.).
Strategy Focus: Circumlocution (explaining a word when you don't know the translation).
"Sometimes in English, you will forget a word. That is normal! But you cannot use Spanish.
You have to explain it. This is called circumlocution."
"I have a mystery bag here. Work in pairs. One of you is the 'Describer', the other is the
'Guesser'. The Describer will reach into the bag, grab an object, and keep it hidden. You
must describe it to your partner using phrases like: 'It is used for...', 'It is made of...', or 'It
looks like a...'. If your partner guesses it, you get a point!"
(Let pairs take turns coming up to the bag, grabbing an item, and describing it).

The Prompting Mission: "The Digital Intro" (12 min)
Teacher-Coach Note: Ensure students have their smartphones and access to a free AI
chatbot (like Gemini or ChatGPT).
"We are in 2026, so let's use the tech to improve our English! Take out your phones.
Remember that Student Profile you wrote earlier? We are going to feed those exact facts to
an AI."
"Type this exact prompt into your AI—I'm writing it on the board:
'Act as my English teacher. I am a Pre-Intermediate adult student. Write a 4-
sentence introduction for me using these facts: [Type your Name, Job, and
Hobbies from your paper]. Use natural, conversational English.'"
"Hit send! Now, read what the AI wrote. Compare it to your original paper. Did the AI
organize the sentences differently? Did it give you a new, useful vocabulary word? Highlight
one new phrase the AI taught you and share it with your partner!"
The Production Phase: "Classroom Rules" (20 min)
Teacher-Coach Note: Prep: Have some large poster paper and markers ready. Put
students into groups of 3-4.
"Now, let's build our community. In your small groups, you are going to create our
'Classroom Constitution'. What rules do we need to succeed in this course?"
"To do this, use modal verbs on the board: 'We should...', 'We must...', or imperatives like
'Always...' and 'Don't...'. For example: 'We should speak English, even if we make mistakes.'
or 'Don't be afraid to ask questions.'"
"Talk with your group and write down your top 3 rules on this poster paper. Then, present
them to the class. If we all agree, it becomes a law for this semester!"
The Wrap-up & Mondly Challenge (4 min)
"You guys brought amazing energy today! You remembered so much grammar and
vocabulary. Before you go, grab a post-it note. This is your Exit Ticket: Write down one new
word or phrase you learned today and stick it on the door as you leave."

Gamified Homework (1 min)
"Your real-world mission for next class: Find an English label on a product in your house
