II. RATIONALE
Science is a vital learning area that equips learners with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and
values needed to understand and appreciate the natural world. It develops critical thinking, scientific
inquiry, problem-solving, and decision-making skills that are essential in everyday life.
However, classroom observations, formative assessments, and quarterly examination results
reveal that many Grade 5 pupils struggle to understand scientific concepts and apply them in real-life
situations. Some pupils have difficulty conducting investigations, interpreting observations, analyzing
data, and using scientific vocabulary effectively.
To address these concerns, Project SIPAG is designed to provide Grade 5 learners with
meaningful, engaging, and learner-centered science experiences through enrichment activities,
remediation sessions, hands-on experiments, science clubs, environmental projects, and collaborative
learning opportunities.
The program aims to enhance pupils’ scientific literacy, improve academic achievement, and
foster a positive attitude toward science learning.

III. PROGRAM GOAL


To develop scientifically literate Grade 5 learners who can demonstrate mastery of science
concepts, scientific skills, and responsible environmental practices.

IV. OBJECTIVES
General Objective
To improve the academic performance, scientific skills, and interest in Science among Grade 5 pupils
through a comprehensive Science Enhancement Program.

Specific Objectives
At the end of the program, Grade 5 pupils will be able to:

Knowledge Objectives
1. Improve mastery of Grade 5 Science competencies.
2. Understand scientific concepts through practical applications.
3. Increase performance in Science assessments by at least 15%.

Skills Objectives
4. Conduct simple scientific investigations independently.
5. Observe, classify, measure, infer, and communicate scientific findings.
6. Apply scientific concepts in solving real-life problems.

V. TARGET BENEFICIARIES
The primary beneficiaries of this program are all Grade 5 pupils, particularly those who have
been identified as struggling learners and require additional support in mastering Science
competencies. It also caters to pupils who demonstrate potential for enrichment activities, providing
them with opportunities to further develop their scientific knowledge, skills, and interests. Through
various intervention, remediation, and enhancement activities, the program aims to address the diverse
learning needs of Grade 5 learners and help them achieve academic success in Science.
The secondary beneficiaries of the program include parents and guardians, teachers, and the
entire school community. Parents and guardians will be actively involved in supporting learners
through home-based activities and continuous encouragement. Teachers will benefit from the
implementation of effective instructional strategies and collaborative efforts that promote improved
learner outcomes. Likewise, the school community will gain from the development of scientifically
literate, environmentally responsible, and actively engaged learners who can contribute positively to
school and community initiatives.

VI. PROGRAM COMPONENTS


Component 1: Science Remediation Program
The Science Remediation Program is designed to provide additional academic support to
Grade 5 pupils who experience difficulties in understanding Science concepts and achieving the
required learning competencies. Through the administration of diagnostic tests, teachers will identify
learners' strengths and areas for improvement. Targeted interventions such as small-group instruction,
remedial classes, competency-based activities, and peer tutoring sessions will be conducted to address
specific learning gaps. This component aims to help learners improve their mastery of competencies,
increase their performance in classroom assessments, and reduce the number of pupils performing
below the expected proficiency level.
Component 2: Hands-On Science Laboratory
The Hands-On Science Laboratory component aims to provide learners with meaningful and
engaging learning experiences through actual experimentation and scientific investigations. By
participating in practical activities, pupils will be able to connect scientific concepts to real-life
situations and develop essential process skills. During the first quarter, learners will engage in
activities such as creating human body models and demonstrating proper health practices. In the
second quarter, they will explore the properties of matter through matter exploration stations and
experiments on physical and chemical changes. The third quarter will focus on investigations
involving force, motion, and light through activities such as balloon rocket experiments and light
reflection demonstrations. In the fourth quarter, learners will construct mini weather stations and
perform water cycle demonstrations to deepen their understanding of Earth and environmental
science. Through these activities, learners are expected to gain a better understanding of scientific
concepts, enhance their investigative skills, and develop a greater interest in Science.

Component 3: Science Vocabulary Enhancement Program


The Science Vocabulary Enhancement Program seeks to strengthen pupils’ comprehension
and use of scientific terminology, which is essential for understanding Science lessons and completing
academic tasks successfully. The program will utilize strategies such as Science Word Walls,
Vocabulary Journals, Picture Dictionaries, Science Crossword Puzzles, and various vocabulary games
to make learning scientific terms engaging and meaningful. By improving their vocabulary
knowledge, learners will be able to comprehend Science texts more effectively, communicate
scientific ideas with greater confidence, and perform better in written assessments and classroom
discussions.

Component 4: Science Club Activities


The Science Club Activities component provides enrichment opportunities that extend
learning beyond the regular classroom setting. It aims to cultivate learners’ curiosity, creativity, and
appreciation for Science through interactive and enjoyable experiences. Activities such as Science
Quiz Bees, Poster Making Contests, Science Model Exhibits, Science Film Viewings, and Science
Investigation Fairs will encourage learners to apply their knowledge and showcase their talents. These
activities are expected to increase learners’ enthusiasm for Science, promote innovation and critical
thinking, and enhance their communication and presentation skills.

Component 5: Environmental Stewardship Program


The Environmental Stewardship Program is designed to develop environmental awareness,
responsibility, and sustainable practices among Grade 5 pupils. Through the School Gardening
Project, learners will participate in vegetable gardening, composting activities, and plant propagation
to gain firsthand experience in caring for plants and understanding ecological relationships. Waste
Management Activities, including waste segregation campaigns, recycling projects, and cleanliness
drives, will help learners develop responsible waste disposal habits. Additionally, tree planting and
community greening projects will encourage learners to contribute to environmental conservation
efforts. Through active participation in these initiatives, learners are expected to demonstrate
responsible environmental behavior, contribute to a cleaner and greener school environment, and
develop a deeper appreciation for the importance of conservation.

Component 6: Parent Involvement Program


The Parent Involvement Program aims to strengthen the partnership between the school and
families in supporting learners’ Science education. Parents and guardians will be encouraged to
participate in orientation sessions, assist learners with home-based Science activities, provide support
for Science homework, and take part in events such as Family Science Day. By actively involving
parents in the learning process, the program seeks to create a supportive learning environment both at
school and at home. This component is expected to increase parental involvement, improve the
support system available to learners, and foster stronger collaboration between the school and families
in promoting academic success.

VIII. STRATEGIES FOR IMPLEMENTATION


Teaching Strategies
The implementation of the Science Enhancement Program will utilize various learner-
centered teaching strategies to ensure meaningful and effective learning experiences for Grade 5
pupils. Differentiated Instruction will be employed to address the diverse learning needs, interests,
and abilities of learners by providing varied activities and instructional approaches. Inquiry-Based
Learning will encourage pupils to ask questions, investigate phenomena, and discover answers
through exploration and critical thinking. Cooperative Learning will promote collaboration among
learners through group activities that foster teamwork, communication, and shared responsibility for
learning.
In addition, Project-Based Learning will allow learners to apply scientific concepts and skills
through the completion of authentic and meaningful projects that address real-world issues.
Experiential Learning will provide opportunities for pupils to learn through direct experiences such as
experiments, field observations, and hands-on activities. Discovery Learning will encourage learners
to construct their own understanding by exploring concepts and identifying patterns independently.
Furthermore, Peer-Assisted Learning will enable learners to support one another through peer
tutoring, collaborative tasks, and cooperative activities, thereby enhancing both academic
achievement and social interaction.

Learning Resources
To support the successful implementation of the program, a variety of instructional materials
and learning resources will be utilized. Science modules will serve as the primary reference for lesson
content and competency development, while Learning Activity Sheets (LAS) will provide guided
exercises and reinforcement activities aligned with learning objectives. Charts and visual aids such as
diagrams, posters, illustrations, and graphic organizers will be used to help learners better understand
scientific concepts and processes.

Moreover, multimedia presentations, including educational videos, interactive slides,


animations, and digital resources, will enhance learner engagement and facilitate deeper
understanding of lessons. Recycled materials will be incorporated into science activities, experiments,
and environmental projects to promote creativity, resourcefulness, and environmental awareness.
Lastly, science experiment kits and laboratory materials will provide learners with opportunities to
conduct hands-on investigations, develop scientific process skills, and apply their learning through
practical experiences. These resources will collectively contribute to creating an engaging, interactive,
and learner-centered Science learning environment.

IX. MONITORING AND EVALUATION


Monitoring and Evaluation
To ensure the effectiveness of the Science Enhancement Program, a comprehensive
monitoring and evaluation system will be implemented to track learners’ academic progress and
behavioral development throughout the duration of the program. The data gathered from various
assessment and monitoring tools will serve as the basis for planning appropriate interventions,
measuring program success, and making necessary adjustments to improve implementation.

Academic Monitoring
Academic monitoring will focus on assessing learners’ knowledge, understanding, and
mastery of Science competencies. A pre-test will be administered at the beginning of the program to
determine learners’ baseline performance and identify learning gaps, while a post-test will be
conducted at the end of the program to measure learning gains and overall improvement. Learners’
performance in quarterly examinations will also be monitored to evaluate their achievement of grade-
level standards and competencies. In addition, competency checklists will be used to track learners’
progress in mastering specific learning competencies throughout the school year. A portfolio
assessment containing learners’ outputs, performance tasks, projects, activity sheets, and laboratory
reports will likewise be maintained to provide evidence of growth, achievement, and skill
development over time.

Behavioral Monitoring
Behavioral monitoring will assess learners’ participation, engagement, and commitment to the
activities implemented under the program. Attendance records will be regularly reviewed to monitor
learners’ consistency in attending Science classes, remediation sessions, and program activities. A
participation checklist will be utilized to document learners’ involvement in classroom discussions,
experiments, group activities, environmental projects, and other Science-related events. Furthermore,
observation reports prepared by teachers will provide qualitative information regarding learners’
attitudes, motivation, cooperation, scientific curiosity, and overall behavior during program
implementation. These monitoring tools will help determine the extent of learners’ engagement and
identify areas where additional support or intervention may be needed.
Through systematic academic and behavioral monitoring, the program aims to ensure that all
Grade 5 learners receive appropriate support and opportunities to achieve success in Science while
developing positive learning habits and scientific attitudes.

X. RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS
The successful implementation of the Science Enhancement Program requires the availability
of appropriate instructional and activity materials that will support learners’ participation in various
science-related activities, experiments, projects, and environmental initiatives. These resources will
help create an engaging, interactive, and learner-centered environment that promotes meaningful
learning experiences.
Bond paper will be utilized for the reproduction of learning activity sheets, assessment tools,
worksheets, reports, and other instructional materials needed throughout the program. Cartolina and
Manila paper will serve as materials for creating posters, visual aids, graphic organizers, project
displays, and science exhibits that support classroom instruction and enrichment activities.
To facilitate creative and interactive learning tasks, markers and crayons will be used for
labeling, illustrating, coloring, and designing science-related outputs such as charts, diagrams, posters,
and project presentations. Various science experiment materials, including measuring tools,
containers, magnets, balloons, thermometers, and other locally available resources, will be utilized
during hands-on investigations and laboratory activities to enhance learners’ understanding of
scientific concepts through actual experience.
For the Environmental Stewardship Program, gardening tools such as trowels, watering cans,
garden hoes, and planting materials will be used in school gardening, tree planting, composting, and
plant propagation activities. Recyclable materials such as plastic bottles, cartons, newspapers, cans,
and other reusable items will also be collected and utilized in environmental projects, science
experiments, model-making activities, and waste management initiatives to promote creativity and
environmental responsibility among learners.
Additionally, multimedia equipment, including laptops, projectors, speakers, televisions, and
other digital devices, will be used to present educational videos, interactive presentations, simulations,
and other technology-based learning resources. These tools will help make science lessons more
engaging, accessible, and relevant to the learners’ experiences.
Collectively, these materials and resources will provide the necessary support for the effective
implementation of the Science Enhancement Program and contribute to the achievement of its goals
and objectives.
