Agenda: Deliberation on the Widespread Global Energy Crisis Following the Russian
Invasion of Ukraine and its Impact on Energy Markets
Recalling Sustainable Development Goal 7,
Noting the importance of promoting international cooperation and partnerships to address the
challenges of the energy crisis,
Encourages countries to share resources with each other based on the available resources in
each country in order to battle the pressing issue of climate change,
Seeking energy generation and supply even during times of conflict,
Acknowledging the potential of renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, and
hydropower, to contribute to a more sustainable and low-carbon energy system highlighting
the importance of balancing energy development,
Recalling the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and its role in promoting the safe
and peaceful use of nuclear energy,
Encourages the use of biochar to permanently sequester carbon,
Emphasises the use of biomass as a cheaper fuel for renewable energy,
Accepts the challenges faced during the transition from the non-renewable energy sources to
renewable energy sources,
Operatives:
1. Encourages the IFEP(International Fund for Environmental Protection), is a fund
founded by the United States of America with the main aim of providing a safety net
to delegates who contribute to it , in case o f any environmental crisis,
(a)The USA along with all the members of the transnational transition bloc have
pledged their commitment to the IFEP, along with the mutual agreement that each
country will donate 1% of their GDP to this fund annually ,
(b)Nations facing an economic crisis will be exempted from the fund and the fund is
open to all nations,To combat corruption , USAFe will ensure fairness as two
representatives from each country will be at the core of all the funds operations ,
These members will be appointed by the respective governments of the countries ,
(c)The Delegate of the USA urges all delegates present in committee to join this fund
to combat this energy crisis,
(d) Reaffirming the commitment to sustainable development, the IFEP fund mandates
that all constituent members shall be provided with substantial resources necessary for
transitioning to renewable energies at a subsidised rate
2. Calls upon nations to foster regional energy integration and cooperation, especially
through creating energy infrastructure that spans borders to improve energy security
and enable the use of renewable energy;
3. Recognising the advantages and benefits of electric vehicles (EVs) as a sustainable
mode of transportation, so member states are encouraged to promote their adoption
and work for the necessary infrastructure development to support the widespread use
of EVs;
4. Reaffirms the importance of clean, renewable energy sources, to combat the global
energy crisis, This includes the increased generation of wind,solar,nuclear and
hydropower energy reducing our dependence on fossil fuels;oon
5. Recommends countries to shift subsidies from non-renewable energy sources to
renewable energy sources;
6. Further requests nations to identify areas that could be used as locations to help
produce renewable energy;
7. Encourages collaboration between countries of different economic statuses,
a. Developed countries (MEDCs) with successful renewable energy generation
plants should provide economic aid and guidance to developing countries
(LEDCs) who wish to seek financial support;
8. Emphasises the use of a carbon tax to offset emissions and provide more money for
renewable energy,
a. The money gained from carbon taxes could be used to research and implement
renewable energy,
b. Requests member states to adopt taxation reduction policies that benefit
individuals who pollute lesser,
i. Cutting taxes for people who generate their own energy through
renewable energy sources and people who use public transport,
ii. Cutting taxes for owners of electric, hybrid, or hydrogen vehicles;
9. Increasing Climate smart agriculture;
a. Growing population and changing diets are intensified by agriculture’s
vulnerability;
b. Identifying countries where Climate Smart Agriculture Investment Plans
(CSAIPs) can be implemented;
10.Recommends increased implementation of carbon capture and utilisation technologies,
a. Used in fertilisers and chemical manufacturing or geologic storage, if nothing
else is possible the carbon can simply be stored in geological formations;
11.Implementing Carbon Credits,
a. Permitting owner to emit certain amount of carbon dioxide,
b. One credit permits the emission of one ton of carbon dioxide,
c. Companies that pollute are awarded credits that allow them to continue to pollute
up to a certain limit, which is reduced periodically.
