Tutorial 7
1. Use the scalar product in R2 to prove the cosine rule.
2. Use the scalar product in R2 to prove that an angle inscribed in a semi-
circle is a right angle.
3. By using the scalar product of two unit vectors in R2 , show that

cos(α − β) = cos α cos β + sin α sin β.

4. Determine the shortest distance between the point (4, 6) ∈ R2 and the line
which passes through the points (2, 2), (4, 3) ∈ R2 .
