Course Title: Nuclear Physics-II (PHYS4121)

Assignment No: 1 & 2

Student Name: [Your Name]

Roll Number: BSF2205940

Date: April 30, 2026

Assignment # 1: Scaling the Atom

1. Identification of the Element

The last two digits of the roll number are 40. Therefore, Z = 40.

The element is Zirconium (Zr).

2. Physical Parameters

Atomic Radius = 1.6 × 10^-10 m

Nuclear Radius ≈ 5.4 × 10^-15 m

Earth Diameter = 1.2742 × 10^7 m

3. Scaling Factor

S ≈ 3.98 × 10^16

4. Scaled Nuclear Size

≈ 430 m
Conclusion:

If the atom were Earth-sized, the nucleus would be about 430 meters.

Assignment # 2: Nucleon Combinations

Given:

Neutrons = 55

Protons = 50

(a) Nuclide:

A = 105

Element = Tin (Sn)

Nuclide = 105Sn

(b) After alpha emission:

Z = 48, N = 53

Element = Cadmium (Cd)

Nuclide = 101Cd

(c) Two nuclei:

First = 8Be

Second = 97Pd
