Think about different kinds of weather - sunny, cloudy, windy, rainy, and snowy.
What's the weather like in each place? (type of weather)
What are the people doing? (activity)
What are they wearing? (clothing)
How might they feel? (feeling)

My Weekly Weather Record

Objective:
Practice observing, recording, and noticing weather changes over time.
Materials:
Printed worksheet
Pencil and crayons/markers

Step 1: Observe the weather where you live each day for 5–7 days. Look at the sky. Is it
sunny, cloudy, rainy, or windy?
☐ sunny ☐ cloudy ☐ rainy ☐ windy

Step 2: Draw one symbol for each day and label it with the day’s name.

Step 3: Write short notes beside each symbol (e.g., “warm and sunny,” or “windy with
clouds”).

1
Step 4: Answer the following questions:

At the end of the week, look for a pattern — which weather type happened most often?
__________________________________________________________________

Write one summary sentence:

This week had mostly _______________________________ weather.

If this pattern continues, what clothes or activities should I choose next week?
Example: “If it’s sunny most days, I’ll wear a hat and plan to play outside.”

Describe and Compare Weather Patterns

Objective:
Use what you know about weather to talk about two different days.

Step 1: Look at your weather chart from the assignment Make Weekly Weather Record
Step 2: Choose two days that had different weather and compare them. (for example, one
sunny day and one rainy day).
Step 3: Tell how the weather was different on those days.
Think about:
What was the weather like?
What did people do?
What did people wear?

Step 4: Write one short paragraph (3–4 sentences) to share your answer.

Investigating Temperature Over Time

Objective:
Measure and record outdoor temperature for five days to see how the weather changes.

Materials:
• A thermometer
• A printed worksheet
• Pencil, crayons
• Clock or watch

Instructions:
Step 1: Choose one time to measure the temperature each day (for example, 8:00 a.m.).
Measure at the same place and same time every day (do it outside of your house or
classroom).
Step 2: For 5 days, record the outdoor temperature (in °C or °F) on your worksheet.
Step 3: After Day 5, color your data:
• Use cool colors (blue/light blue) for cooler days.
• Use warm colors (orange/red) for hotter days.
Complete steps 1, 2, 3 in the table in the next page

Place chosen:

2
Step 4: Answer the questions.
After Day 5, look for patterns:

1. Which day was the hottest?

2. Which day was the coolest?

Lesson: How The Sun Warms The Earth

The Sun and Temperature Investigation

Objective: Students will measure and compare the temperature of water in direct and
indirect sunlight to see how the Sun warms objects.

Materials:
2 plastic cups with the same amount of water
1 thermometer
Paper and pencil

Instructions:
Step 1: Put one cup of water in direct sunlight and one cup of water in the shade.
Make sure both cups start at the same time. Wait for 10 minutes.

Step 2: Measure the temperature of each cup using the thermometer. Record the
temperatures using the unit shown on your thermometer (°C or °F).

3. Answer the questions:
Gently touch the outside of each cup, then fill in the chart below:

Which cup was warmer?

Magic Move
Objective: Students will observe different types of movement around them and begin to
recognize that some objects move because air is pushing or pulling them.

Instructions:
Step 1: Look and Observe
Look out your window or around your house or school with a trusted adult. What do you
see moving?
Try to find at least two non-living things that are moving, such as flags, tree branches,
or clothes on a clothesline.
If you cannot observe real-life objects safely, watch the short video below that shows
both living and non-living things moving.

Wind in Our Daily Life

Objective: Student will observe and explain how wind helps their family in everyday life.

Instructions:
Step 1: Observe
For the next one or two days, look carefully at what happens around your home.
Find 4 objects, tools, or activities where wind is being used:

Natural wind (for example, wind blowing outside), or

Made by people (for example, a fan or air vent that creates moving air)
Each time you notice something like this, go to Step 2.
Step 2: Record
Each time you see wind being used, write it in the table below.
One example has already been filled in to help you.

Step 3: Conclude
After you finish your observations, write one sentence about what you learned.
Use this sentence frame:

“I learned that wind helps my family by ______________.

I noticed that wind can be ________ (light/strong) and it can ________.”
