🎬 SCENE 1: HOME IN EUROPE – LIFE DURING WAR
(Low lights. Sounds of distant war. The family sits close together.)
Sriya (Narrator):
This story begins in a small European country.
A country once filled with songs, markets, and laughter.
But now, it is a place where fear has slowly replaced peace.
Jaanvika (soft, innocent):
Mama… why do we sleep with our shoes on every night?
Suteerdha (gentle, emotional):
Because sometimes, my child, we may have to leave quickly.
Jaanvika:
Leave where, Mama?
Suteerdha:
Anywhere safer than here.
Shaurya (rubbing his eyes):
Papa… my eyes hurt again.
Everything looks blurry.
Manan (kneels beside him):
I know, my son.
I see your pain every day.
Shaurya:
The doctor said my eyes need medicine…
but we don’t have it here.
Manan (voice heavy):
That is why we cannot stay.
Sriya (Narrator):
Shaurya is suffering from trachoma,
a serious illness that affects the eyes.
In their country, hospitals are broken,
medicine is rare,
and war has taken over daily life.
Suteerdha:
Every morning I wake up scared.
Every night I pray for our children.
Manan:
And every day I ask myself—
what future are we giving them here?
Jaanvika (quietly):
Are we leaving our home forever?
Manan (after a pause):
We are leaving our house…
so that you may live.
🎬 SCENE 2: THE DECISION TO MIGRATE
(A small suitcase is placed centre stage.)
Suteerdha:
We can only carry what fits in this suitcase.
Jaanvika:
Can I bring my doll?
She helps me sleep.
Suteerdha (smiles sadly):
Yes… she will remind us of home.
Shaurya:
Papa… what if they don’t let us enter the new land?
Manan:
Then we will speak honestly.
We will not hide who we are.
Suteerdha:
We are not weak people.
Manan:
We are parents trying to protect our children.
Sriya (Narrator):
Leaving home is painful.
But sometimes, staying is even more dangerous.
🎬 SCENE 3: THE SHIP – THIRD CLASS JOURNEY
(Ship sounds. Slow, crowded movement.)
Sriya (Narrator):
The family travels across the Atlantic Ocean.
Deep inside the ship, in third class.
The air is thick.
The rooms are crowded.
Many people are sick and exhausted.
Shaurya:
Mama… it’s hard to breathe here.
Suteerdha:
Stay close to me.
Cover your mouth.
Jaanvika:
Why are there so many people?
Manan:
Because everyone here carries a dream…
just like us.
Shaurya:
Papa… what if my eyes never get better?
Manan (firm but loving):
Then I will still stand by you.
I promise I will never stop trying.
Sriya (Narrator):
For two long weeks,
they travel with fear, sickness, and hope.
🎬 SCENE 4: SEEING AMERICA
(Soft hopeful music.)
Jaanvika (excited):
Look! A lady holding a torch!
Suteerdha:
That is the Statue of Liberty.
Shaurya:
What does she mean?
Manan:
She means freedom.
She means a new beginning.
Sriya (Narrator):
Before Ellis Island,
they see a promise shining in the distance.
🎬 SCENE 5: ELLIS ISLAND – QUESTIONS & CONFUSION
(Ellis Island desk. Ruthwic stands firm.)
Ruthwic (strict):
Name?
Manan:
Manan.
Ruthwic:
Why did you come to America?
Manan (slow, careful English):
There is war in my country.
I want work.
I want safety for my children.
Ruthwic:
Do you have money?
Manan:
Only enough to begin.
Ruthwic:
Do you speak English?
Manan (hesitant):
A little… I am still learning.
Sriya (Narrator):
They are asked many questions.
Again and again.
Their answers must match.
Their fear grows with every pause.
Jaanvika (whispering):
Mama… are we in trouble?
Suteerdha:
No, my love.
We are just being tested.
🎬 SCENE 6: HEALTH CHECK – THE HARDEST MOMENT
(Doctor Arav V steps forward.)
Arav V (Doctor):
Open your eyes, child.
Shaurya (scared):
Papa…
Arav V:
He has trachoma.
(Silence.)
Suteerdha (voice shaking):
Please… he is only eleven.
Manan:
We will stay with him.
We will not leave him behind.
Sriya (Narrator):
Ellis Island was also called
the Island of Tears.
Families feared separation more than anything.
(Agastya steps forward.)
Agastya (kind):
He will stay.
He will be treated.
(Family hugs in relief.)
🎬 SCENE 7: SCHOOL – NEW STRUGGLES
(School setting.)
Ruhaan (Teacher):
Welcome to the class.
Please take your seats.
Shaurya (whispering):
I don’t understand the words.
Jaanvika:
Everyone is looking at us.
Shaurya:
They think we don’t belong here.
Sriya (Narrator):
Reaching a new land
does not end the journey.
