SAFETY PRECAUTION:
Setting up Scaffolding: (Cup-lock and Mobile scaffoldings)
Competent scaffolder will be assigned for the erection and dismantling of cup-lock
scaffolding.
Ladder needs to be attached with scaffolding for the safe access and egress.
Ensure the ground is level, stable, and capable of supporting the scaffolding.
Assemble the scaffolding following the manufacturer's instructions, ensuring all
components are securely connected.
Prior to the commencement of work, a thorough inspection of the scaffolding should
be carried out to ensure its structural integrity and stability.
Adequate training on the assembly, use, and dismantling of mobile scaffolding should
be provided to all workers involved.
The work area should be cordoned off and clearly marked to prevent unauthorized
access.
Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as helmets, safety harnesses, gloves, and
safety shoes must be worn by all personnel
Shifting of Material to the work area
Shifting of Materials will be manually from material storage area to work area:
Walkway to be free form obstructions, slippery surface and any kind of unwanted
materials.
Proper illumination needs to be provided
Stacking of materials should not exceed over 1.5m of height from the ground level.
Trained, experienced and medically fit workforce to be deployed
Proper posture to be maintained during lifting of material
Do not lift more than the standard weight limit (25kg)
Wear appropriate PPE’s (cut resistant hand gloves, Safety shoes, Shoulder pad,
Helmet, Reflective jacket)
Lifting of Material to the work area
Materials (Aerated blocks, mortar, etc.) to be lifted manually from ground level to
above the scaffolding (platform height 8m or less) passing material manually through
each level of platform.

Clear Communication: Establish clear communication between the workers on the
scaffolding and those on the ground. Use hand signals or two-way radios to ensure
effective communication and coordination during the shifting or lifting process
Fall Protection: Implement adequate fall protection measures, such as safety
harnesses, guardrails, Toe boards, out riggers, to prevent falls from the scaffolding.
All workers should be aware of these measures and know how to use them
effectively.
Load Limits: Adhere to the limited persons specified for the scaffolding and ensure
that the total weight of the materials being shifted or lifted does not exceed the
standard limit. Overloading the scaffolding can compromise its stability and pose a
significant risk.
Secure Footing: Maintain a secure footing while working on the scaffolding. Ensure
that the planks are clean, dry, and free from any debris that could cause slipping or
tripping hazards.
Train and assign competent workers: Only trained and qualified personnel should
operate the lifting equipment. They should be familiar with the proper use of the
equipment and have knowledge of safe lifting practices.
Use proper lifting techniques: Train workers in proper lifting techniques, including
using their leg muscles and keeping their back straight while lifting. Avoid
overexertion and encourage teamwork when handling heavy or bulky items.
Clear the area: Keep the work area clear of obstacles and unnecessary personnel
during the lifting operation. Area needs to be barricaded before lifting the materials.
This helps reduce the risk of accidents and allows the workers to focus on the task at
hand.
Appropriate PPE’s to be wear (Double lanyard safety harness, Hard hat, Non slippery
safety shoes, reflective jacket, Hand gloves)
Other Safety precautions to be taken
Respiratory hazards: Blockwork involves the use of cement, M-sand, which can
become airborne during the mixing and application process. Inhalation of these
particles can irritate the respiratory system and cause respiratory issues. Prolonged
exposure to cement & M-sand dust may lead to conditions like occupational asthma
or bronchitis. Wearing appropriate respiratory protection, such as a dust mask or
respirator, is essential to minimize this hazard.
Skin irritation: Some individuals may develop skin irritation or dermatitis due to
prolonged contact with cement & M-sand used for block work. These irritants can
cause dryness, redness, itching, or even more severe reactions. Wearing protective
clothing, such as gloves and long-sleeved shirts, can help minimize skin contact and

reduce the risk of irritation. Regular handwashing or use of barrier creams can also be
beneficial.
Follow the specific precautions provided in the MSDS for cement & M-sand and
should be submitted.
Falls and trips: Block work often requires working on elevated platforms or ladders to
reach higher areas. Without proper precautions, there is a risk of falls and trips, which
can lead to serious injuries. Ensuring a stable and secure work platform, using
appropriate ladders with non-slip feet, and maintaining good housekeeping practices
can help prevent such accidents
Designated storage area for the M-sand on the ground with necessary barrication and
safety signs, and cement bags will be stored in the JRD store on the ground floor.
Stacking of materials should not exceed over 1.5m of height from the ground level.
Debris and waste particles should be removed frequently and proper housekeeping
should be maintained.
Wear Appropriate PPEs (Helmet, Reflective Jacket, Double lanyard safety harness,
Rubber Hand gloves, Safety shoes /Gum boots, Goggles, Dust mask)
PROCEDURE:
General:
Ensure Material approval prior to start work.
Ensure approved drawing available prior to start of work.
Carry out markings marking as per approved drawing.
Take clearance from services (MEP) before start of work (if required).
Ensure necessary safety precautions are in place prior to start.
Check list to be approved by managers prior to start work.
Block work:
Preparatory work
Ensure the availability of detailed layout of the building showing room
dimensions, thickness of walls at various locations on the floor plate and all
the details of openings to be coordinated.
Layout should be marked by the surveyor.
After Layout marking, layout surface should be hacked and made rough.
All Blocks should be pre-wetted.

Starting of block work
First course layer layout will be layed with adhesive, followed with primary
inspection. And per day allowed height of block work will be at 1.2 m.
Adhesive should be mixed as per the manufacturers recommendations.
The thickness of joints between blocks should be as per manufacturers
recommendation.
Adhesive shall be mixed with proper mechanical mixer. In using proper containers.
Each layer of block masonry shall me maintained in proper plumb and line by using
proper inspection tools.
Mix quantity of mortar, which will be consumed in next 2 hours only. Mixing shall
be done with proper measurement of ingredients. Mixing platform must be clean.
Mixing mortar shall be in accordance with good practice.
Block laying, alignment & jointing
Carry out one row of block work with dry bond, wall to establish the proper spacing
of blocks.
Lay one block at a time and & gently pressing it in the mortar bed.
Use a line thread from one end to end with a line pipe.
Excess mortar coming out on the edges to be taken by the trowel and buttered to the
cross directional joint or head joint surface of the next block being laid.
Use straight edge on the top of the blocks laid and check the top level.
Repeat the above points for building more courses. After every two courses of block
work laid, check the verticality and level by plumb bob and level the tube, sight down
the wall.
At first and second lintel (at every 1.2meter) from the floor level concrete binder in
the proportion of M-20 grade, 2 no’s of 8mm dia Fe 550 bars concrete reinforced lintel
to be laid.
For door lintel, concrete binders in the proportion of M-20 grade, 4 no’s of 12mm dia
Fe 500 bars with stirrups concrete reinforced lintel to be laid.
Provision to be made for cut-outs (openings for sanitary, electrical, firefighting or any
other services) and after completion of the services work, all the cut-outs and
openings to be made good, matching the surroundings with grout/Sealant.
