General Instructions:

• The question paper consists of four sections: Group A, Group B, Group C, and Group D.
• All questions are compulsory. Internal choices are provided in some sections.
• Show your working clearly wherever necessary.

GROUP A: Multiple Choice / Very Short Answer (10 × 1 = 10

Marks)
Choose the correct option or provide the answer in one word/sentence.

1. Real
√ Numbers: Which √
of the following is an irrational number?
(a) 16 (b) 3.14 (c) 12 (d) 22 7

2. Laws of Indices: Find the value of (27)−2/3 .

3. Profit and Loss: If the cost price of an article is 80% of its selling price, what is the
profit percentage?

4. Polynomial: What is the degree of a non-zero constant polynomial?

5. Co-ordinate Geometry: What is the distance of the point P (−3, 4) from the origin?

6. Linear Simultaneous Equation: What is the condition for the system of equations
a1 x + b1 y + c1 = 0 and a2 x + b2 y + c2 = 0 to have infinitely many solutions?

7. Properties of Parallelogram: In a parallelogram ABCD, if ∠A = 70◦ , find the measure

of ∠C.

8. Area and Perimeter: Find the area of an equilateral triangle with a side length of 4 cm.

9. Factorisation: Factorise: x2 − 81.

10. Transversal and Mid Point Theorem: The line segment joining the midpoints of any
two sides of a triangle is ____________ to the third side.

GROUP B: Short Answer Type (5 × 2 = 10 Marks)

Solve the following questions.
 a+b b+c c+a
xa xb xc
11. Laws of Indices: Simplify: xb
× xc × xa

12. Profit and Loss: A shopkeeper sold two different items for Rs. 990 each. On one, he
gains 10% and on the other, he loses 10%. Find his overall gain or loss percentage.

13. Polynomial: Use the remainder theorem to find the remainder when the polynomial
p(x) = x3 − ax2 + 6x − a is divided by (x − a).

14. Co-ordinate Geometry: Find the point on the x-axis which is equidistant from the
points A(2, −5) and B(−2, 9).

15. Area and Perimeter: The perimeter of a rhombus is 20 cm and one of its diagonals is
8 cm. Find the area of the rhombus.

GROUP C: Long Answer / Problem Solving (5 × 4 = 20 Marks)

Show all your steps clearly.

16. Linear Simultaneous Equations: Solve the following system of equations using either
the elimination or substitution method:
2x + 3y = 11
2x − 4y = −24

17. Factorisation: Factorise the polynomial completely using the factor theorem: x3 − 2x2 −
x + 2.

18. Graph: Draw the graph of the linear equation 3x + 4y = 12. Also, find the coordinates
of the points where this graph cuts the x-axis and the y-axis.

19. Real Numbers: Represent 5 on the number line. (Provide a brief explanation of your
geometric steps).

20. Profit and Loss: A merchant marks his goods at such a price that after allowing a
discount of 10% on the marked price, he still makes a profit of 8%. If the cost price of the
article is Rs. 500, find its marked price.

GROUP D: Geometry, Theorems & Constructions (4 × 5 = 20

Marks)
21. Properties of Parallelogram: State and prove that the diagonals of a parallelogram
bisect each other.

22. Mid Point Theorem: Prove that the line segment joining the mid-points of two sides
of a triangle is parallel to the third side and is equal to half of it.

23. Construction: Construct a parallelogram ABCD where AB = 6 cm, BC = 4 cm, and

∠ABC = 60◦ . (Only traces of construction are required, no need to write detailed steps).

24. Area and Perimeter: The sides of a quadrilateral field ABCD, taken in order, are
AB = 26 m, BC = 27 m, CD = 7 m, and DA = 24 m. The angle contained by the last
two sides (∠CDA) is a right angle (90◦ ). Calculate the total area of the field.
