Welcome to the module in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning
Servicing NC II. This module contains training materials and activities for
you to complete.
The unit of competency " Service and Maintain Domestic Refrigeration
Air-conditioning (DomRAC) units " contains knowledge, skills and
attitudes required for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Servicing NC
II

You are required to go through a series of learning activities in order

to complete each learning outcome of the module. In each learning
outcome are Information Sheets, Self-Checks, Operation Sheets or
Task Sheets. Follow these activities on your own. If you have questions,
don’t hesitate to ask your facilitator for assistance.

MODULE DESCRIPTOR: This unit covers the knowledge, skills and

attitudes in servicing and maintaining
domestic refrigeration and air-conditioning
units. Speci昀椀cally, it includes cleaning and
replacing air 昀椀lters, servicing evaporator/
condenser, maintaining fan motor assembly,
servicing electrical power and control
circuits as well as accomplishing service and
maintenance report

NOMINAL DURATION: 40 hrs

INTRODUCTION/OVERVIEW:

AIR FILTER:

Preventive maintenance, proper service and troubleshooting play a big

part in keeping humidifying equipment operating e昀케ciently. Cleaning the
components that are in contact with the water is the most important
factor. In evaporative system, these minerals of water collect on the
media, on other moving parts and in the reservoir. In addition, algae,
bacteria, and virus

growth can cause problems, even to the extent of blocking the output of
the humidi昀椀er. The reservoir should be drained regularly if possible and
components, particularly the media type, should be cleaned periodically.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF AIR FILTERS:

FIBERGLASS FILTER MEDIA :

This media may be purchased in bulk

or in frames. This material is usually an inch
thick and coated with a special non-drying,
non-toxic adhesive on each 昀椀ber. A 昀椀lter
material is designed so that it gets

BAG-TYPE AIR FILTERS

This is another type of 昀椀lter that

produces greater 昀椀ltering e昀케ciencies. These
昀椀lters use 昀椀ne 昀椀berglass media within the
bags and remove microscopic particles.

rooms, electronic equipment assembly
rooms and computer equipment rooms.
