Title: the group project that almost failed.
Characters.
Dylan: smart but bossy, always wants everything done perfectly.
Cameron: funny, a bit lazy. He jokes a lot tries to avoid work.
Avery: organized, calm and responsible, she tries to solve problems peacefully.
Scene 1:starting to do the project.
Avery: Alright, everyone, we really need to finish this project by today, our presentation is tomorrow
morning.
Dylan: don’t worry I already have a plan.
Cameron: that’s good. Does the plan include snacks and a nap?
Avery: cameron, this is serious.
Cameron: I know im seriously hungry.
(Dylan roles his eyes)
Dylan:okay listen that’s enough, I will explain the topic during the presentation because im good at
speaking.
Avery: that actually makes sense.
Dylan: Avery, you can make the slides on the laptop.
Avery: sure, why not.
(both looking at Cameron).
Cameron: why are you both looking at me?
Dylan: because you haven’t contributed in anything.
Cameron: that’s not true. You continue, im thinking.
Avery: thinking about what?
Cameron: thinking about how I ended up here in this group.
Scene 2: the Argument.
Dylan: cameron you need to do something.
Cameron: fine(makes a proud face) ill hold the pointer during the presentation.
Dylan: holding the pointer its not work.
Cameron: excuse me, it’s a very important work.
Avery: how.
Cameron: without the pointer, how will people know where the slide is.?
Dylan: they have eyes, they can see for themselves.
Cameron: huh technology has really improved.
(Avery tries not to laugh)
Dylan: this is exactly why I don’t like group projects they are just stressful for no good reason.
Cameron: hey excuse me don’t blame me I didn’t invent group projects.
Avery: can we please please focus.
(Dylan and cameron start arguing louder.)
Dylan: Cameron is being lazy!
Cameron: Dylan is being bossy.
Dylan: at least im trying to finish the work.
Cameron: at least im keeping the mood positive.
Scene 3: realizing the problem
(Avery stand up).
Avery: stop.
(cameron and dylan become quiet)
Avery: do you realize something?
Cameron : that we are all tired.
Avery: No. Our project is about peace and conflict.
Dylan: yes we know that………so.
Avery: And right now we are having a conflict.
(cameron nods slowly).
Cameron: so technically………we are doing practial research.
Dylan: cameron!
(Avery laughs a little.)
Avery : look arguing is not helping and will not help. We only have one day left, not even one day a
few hours left.
Cameron: And I would really like to pass this class.
Scene 4: solving conflict.
Avery: let’s solve this peacefully. We just need to divide this work fairly.
Dylan: Alright what can you suggest?
Avery: I will make the slides.
Dylan: I will explain the main ideas
Avery: Cameron you can can be preparing the examples.
Cameron: an example?
Avery: yes. You can explain how conflicts start and how we can solve them.
Cameron: that’s easy.
Dylan: how?
Cameron: ill just tell the class what happened, today.
(dylan pauses).
Dylan: you know…………..that can actually work.
Avery: see? When we stop arguing, we find good solutions.
Scene 5: finishing the work.
( they start working collaboratively).
Avery: okay, now the first slide says peace means solving problems without fighting.
Dylan: that’s good now the second slide should explain the causes of conflict.
Cameron: I have an idea for my example.
Avery: mmmh!
Cameron:one put 3 students in a group project.
Dylan: hey!
Cameron: two: one student tries to control almost everything.
Dylan: cameron…….
Dylan : three: one student tries to do nothing.
Cameron: and that would be me.
(Avery laughs)
Avery: and step 4.
Cameron: step 4: everyone talks, shares ideas and at the end solve problem.
Scene 6: the funny ending.
Dylan: you know this project might actually be good.
Cameron: yes, because we stopped fighting.
Avery: that’s the whole point of peace.
Cameron: wait.
Dylan: what now?
Cameron: who will bring the printed slides tomorrow.
(Avery and Dylan both look at each other).
Avery: cameron.
Cameron: oh no………conflict again.
(they all laugh)
The final message.
Avery: conflicts happen when people disagree.
Dylan:but problems can be solved when people talk and cooperate.
Cameron: and when everyone actually helps with the work.
All together: peace is always better than conflict.
