Ilm al-Huroof can be understood as a structured way of interpreting reality through


the smallest unit of written language: the letter. In this framework, letters are not
only phonetic symbols used to construct words, but also conceptual building blocks
that carry intrinsic symbolic weight. Each letter is treated as a unit of meaning that
contributes independently to the identity of a word, while also participating in a
larger relational system when combined with other letters.
At the core of this approach is the assumption that language is not arbitrary.
Instead, it is viewed as ordered, where sound, shape, and sequence reflect deeper
layers of meaning. A letter such as Alif is often associated with singularity or origin
due to its vertical, unified form. Ba is seen as receptive or foundational due to its
structure resting below a point. Meem is frequently linked with enclosure or
completion due to its circular shape. These associations are not fixed scientific laws
but symbolic interpretations developed through centuries of linguistic and mystical
reflection.
Within Ilm al-Huroof, meaning is not only extracted from whole words but from
internal letter dynamics. The position of a letter in a word may alter its interpretive
