REPORT WRITING
Report Writing – A report is a written account of something that one has observed, heard, done, or
investigated. It is a systematic and well-organized presentation of facts and findings of an event that has
already taken place somewhere.
The question for the report writing is supposed to be answered within the prescribed limit of 120-150
words. Talking about marks, it comes as a 05 marks question.

There are two kinds of reports

FEATURES OF A REPORT-
Written in third person. Avoid use of 1st person
Preferably use the passive form of the verb.
Use simple but precise and formal language. Use past tense.
Report only facts and in the order in which they happened
Quote comments /views of people present.
Word limit: 125-150

Q. Annual Prize Distribution Function was held in your school on 19th November [Link] a report to

Annual Prize Distribution Function

Annual Prize Distribution Function was organized on 19th November 20xx in our school. Mr. K. S.
Sinha, the Education Minister of the state was the Chief Guest of the function. It was a matter of great
pride for us. He came at 10:00 am.
Our Principal, Mrs Sudharaman and some teachers welcomed him with bouquet of flowers. The parents
of the students and other respected people of the city were invited to grace the occasion. The function
started at 10:00 am sharp. The Function began with welcome song. The Principal and the Chief Guest lit
the lamp before the picture of Goddess Saraswati. The students of our school presented cultural items.
People enjoyed this Cultural Program a lot with a loud applause. After that our Principal read out the
Annual Report of the school. Thereafter the Prize Distribution took place.
The Chief Guest distributed the prizes to the winners of the respective fields. He delivered a very
motivating speech. The function ended with National Anthem.
NEWSPAPER REPORT (EXAMPLE 2)

Army Public School Agra Celebrates Republic Day

27 January 20xx, Agra
On the auspicious morning of 26th Jan, Army School Agra celebrated Republic Day in the school
premises. Brigadier AK Khanna was the Chief Guest of the day He was warmly welcomed by the whole
staff led by the Principal, Mr [Link].
The Hon'ble Chief guest unfurled the National flag. After that, everybody stood straight for the National
Song sung by the students. Then there was a parade by NCC cadets of the school. After this, students
presented cultural items. These cultural items included patriotic songs, folk dances and speeches. There
were speakers who through their speeches invoked the precious contribution of great freedom fighters.
With a couple of cultural items, the function ended with the National Anthem. Towards the end, coloured
balloons were flown symbolizing prosperity and peace. Sweets were also distributed.
