STE Enhanced Math and Science Curriculum
The Science, Technology, and Engineering (STE) program (formerly ESEC) is a
specialized curriculum designed for students with high aptitude in the sciences
and mathematics. It offers a more rigorous pace and advanced topics compared
to the Regular Basic Education Curriculum (RBEC).
Enhanced Mathematics
The STE Math focuses on early acceleration. Students often tackle concepts a full
year ahead of their peers, with a heavy emphasis on analytical proofs and
mathematical modeling.
Grade Level Core Focus Key Enhanced Topics
Grade 7 Advanced Algebra Set theory, complex number
systems, and advanced polynomial
operations.
Grade 8 Geometry & TrigonometryAxiomatic systems, coordinate
geometry, and introductory circular
functions.
Grade 9 Advanced Statistics Probability distributions, hypothesis
testing, and non-parametric tests.
Grade 10 Pre-Calculus Limits, continuity, derivatives, and
conic sections (parabolas, ellipses).
Key Learning Competencies
Mathematical Modeling: Using equations to solve real-world
engineering problems.
Abstract Reasoning: Moving beyond "plug-and-chug" formulas to
understand the why behind theorems.

Research Integration: Using statistical tools to validate data in science
research projects.
Enhanced Science
The hallmark of STE Science is the Research component. While regular students
take general science, STE students dive into specialized branches early on.
Grade 7: Environmental Science & Biotechnology
Focuses on ecosystem dynamics and the application of biological processes in
technology.
Enrichment: Intro to Bioinformatics and Genetic Engineering basics.
Grade 8: Consumer Chemistry
A shift from general properties of matter to practical applications.
Enrichment: Analyzing food additives, soap making, and the chemistry of
cosmetics.
Grade 9: Advanced Physics
Focuses on mechanics and thermodynamics with a calculus-based approach.
Enrichment: Fluid dynamics, electronics (circuitry), and introductory
robotics.
Grade 10: Advanced Chemistry / Genetics
Preparation for university-level organic and inorganic chemistry.
Enrichment: Stoichiometry, Molecular Biology, and Heredity.
The Research Advanced Subject (Unique to STE)
In addition to the core subjects, STE students take Science Research as a
separate subject from Grade 7 to Grade 10.
1. Research I (Grade 7): Basic Science Processes and the Scientific
Method.
2. Research II (Grade 8): Technical Writing and Research Design.
3. Research III (Grade 9): Data Collection and Experimentation.
4. Research IV (Grade 10): Research/Thesis Defense and Science Fair
Participation (School Investigatory Project).

Note: Because the STE program is often governed by regional or national
offices, specific modules may vary slightly by school, but the "Advanced" and
"Research-heavy" nature remains the standard.
