Instructions
1. All questions are compulsory.
2. Draw neat and labelled diagrams wherever necessary.
3. Use the sign convention wherever applicable.
4. Write all calculations with proper units.
Q1. Draw a ray diagram showing the image formation by a convex lens when the object is placed
beyond 2F. State the nature, position and size of the image formed. (3 Marks)
Q2.
(i) Find the focal length of a concave mirror if its radius of curvature is 30 cm. (1 Mark)
(ii) An object of height 2 cm is placed before a lens. The image formed is 6 cm high. Find the
magnification. (1 Mark)
Q3. A concave mirror forms a real image 30 cm in front of the mirror when an object is placed 60 cm in
front of it. Find the focal length of the mirror. (3 Marks)
Q4. Light travels in air and enters glass. If the speed of light in glass is 2 × 10⁸ m/s, find the refractive
index of glass.
Given: Speed of light in vacuum = 3 × 10⁸ m/s. (3 Marks)
Q5. A convex lens forms a real image of an object with magnification −2. The image is formed 40 cm
from the lens.
Find the following:
1. Object distance
2. Focal length of the lens
3. Nature of the image
(5 Marks)
Q6.
(i) A convex lens has a focal length of 25 cm. Calculate its power. (1 Mark)
(ii) A convex lens forms a real image at a distance of 40 cm from the lens. The magnification is −2. Find
the object distance. (3 Marks)
