SKINCARE MANAGEMENT GUIDE

Clinical Compatibility & Routine Structure for Acne and Post-Inflammatory Marks

This document provides a definitive clinical breakdown of ingredient compatibility, daily management protocols, and
specific "Do's and Don'ts" compiled for your current skin profile (mild-to-moderate inflammatory acne, comedones,
and post-acne hyperpigmentation with an oily-combination base).

1. INGREDIENT CONFLICTS: WHAT CANNOT BE USED TOGETHER

Using multiple high-potency actives simultaneously overwhelms the epidermal barrier, causing structural lipid
depletion, severe irritation, contact dermatitis, and compensatory sebaceous hyper-secretion (which triggers
worsening acne). Follow these absolute exclusion rules:

❌ CRITICAL CONFLICT 1: SkinQ Serum & The Derma Co 2% Salicylic Acid Serum
Rule: NEVER layer these in the same routine or use them on the same night.
The SkinQ serum already contains Salicylic Acid layered alongside a Retinol liposome. Adding a separate 2%
Salicylic Acid serum on top creates extreme acid toxicity, severely stripping your stratum corneum and causing
a painful, compromised skin barrier.

❌ CRITICAL CONFLICT 2: SkinQ Serum & Dot & Key / Derma Co 10% Niacinamide Serums
Rule: Do NOT layer 10% Niacinamide directly with the SkinQ Serum at night.
The SkinQ serum contains Azelaic Acid, Salicylic Acid, and Retinol. Combining it directly with a standalone,
ultra-high concentration (10%) Niacinamide serum in the same layer can cause temporary flushing, tingling,
and immediate barrier stress. Keep 10% Niacinamide strictly to the morning or recovery days.

❌ REDUNDANCY RULE: Dot & Key 10% Niacinamide vs. The Derma Co 10% Niacinamide
Rule: Do NOT use both of these serums in the same day.
They are redundant formulas serving the same purpose. The Dot & Key formulation is highly preferred for your
skin because it integrates Cica, Alpha Arbutin, and Ceramides, which actively heal the skin barrier and block
melanin pathways to clear dark marks much faster. Set the Derma Co Niacinamide aside entirely for now.

2. WHAT TO DO (CORE GUIDELINES)

• Introduce Products Gradually: Phase your routine in slowly. Start week 1 by using only the AM steps and
alternating nights with just one treatment. Do not launch all products on Day 1.
• Apply a Lightweight Moisturizer: Active acids and retinols require a non-comedogenic, gel-based or
water-based moisturizer to repair the skin lipid barrier. Apply this 5-10 minutes after your treatment serums
dry.
• Mandatory Sunscreen Usage: Salicylic acid and Retinol dramatically accelerate cellular turnover,
exposing fresh skin that is highly vulnerable to UV rays. Apply a broad-spectrum, matte-finish SPF 50
sunscreen every single morning. Skipping sunscreen will permanently darken your acne marks.

• Allow Absorption Time: Wait 1 to 2 minutes between cleansing and applying serums, and allow your
treatment serums to dry fully before sealing them in with a moisturizer.
• Expect a Purging Period: When using Salicylic Acid and Retinol (SkinQ), deep microcomedones under
your skin will be pushed to the surface faster. This temporary "purge" is normal and resolves within 2 to 4
weeks.

3. WHAT TO AVOID (RISK MITIGATION)

• Never Pick, Squeeze, or Pop Bumps: Forcing open a comedone or papule damages the dermal layer,
pushes bacteria deeper into surrounding tissues, and ensures the formation of severe post-inflammatory
hyperpigmentation (dark marks) or permanent physical scarring.
• Avoid Physical Scrubs: Do not use apricot scrubs, walnut shells, coarse face brushes, or rough towels.
Your chemical exfoliants are already clearing out your pores; physical scrubbing will tear active pimples
and spread bacteria.
• Do Not Over-Wash Your Face: Washing your face more than twice a day strips your skin's natural
moisture barrier, forcing your sebaceous glands to produce an over-abundance of oil, which clogs pores
and triggers new breakouts.
• Do Not Apply Actives onto Wet Skin: Applying strong serums like Salicylic acid or SkinQ onto damp skin
causes deeper penetration than intended, which can trigger severe irritation, chemical burns, or peeling.
Always dry your skin completely first.
• Avoid Comedogenic, Heavy Creams: Stay clear of heavy white creams or oils (like coconut oil or thick
shea butter moisturizers), as they will immediately block your pores and counteract the effects of your
serums.

preventing product interactions and skin barrier compromise.

4. SPF 50 Sunscreen acids)

Note: Consistent compliance for a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks is physiologically required to observe significant variations in cellular acne
cycle control and dermal pigment fading. If condition escalates to severe nodular or cystic lesions, discontinue actives and seek
immediate dermatological intervention.
