NAn introduction should be like a map to introduce and identify the topic, inform surrounding context

and route the essay to final Conclusion.

Four Functions of an introduction


1. Identify the topic
2. Introduce the topic
3. Inform surrounding context/setting context(tamheed bandhna)
4. Route the essay to final conclusion

An introduction is consisted on 10-18 sentences and covers 10% of an essay.

Three Components of an Introduction

1. Opening/General Statement (06 sentences)


2. Supporting/Additional Statement (10 sentences)
3. Thesis Statement (01 Sentence)

🎀Note: a topic can have two types of details: 1. Descriptive 2. Argumentative

1. Opening /General Statement= Introduce the topic (first 1-3 sentences) + Define/identify the
topic in last 1-3 sentences(either define the topic simply or tell historical perspective of the
topic)

2. Supporting /Additional Statements


 If essay is descriptive tell details =causes, consequences, solutions
 If essa is argumentative do these three things
1. Tell your point of view in 6
sentences
2. Tell other's point of vuew in 2
sentences
3. Refute other's pint of view in last
2 sentences

3. End your Introduction with your thesis statement
