1. ABSTRACT
The Lost & Found Network is a web-based application developed to help people
report, search, and recover lost belongings efficiently. In daily life, many individuals
lose valuable items such as mobile phones, wallets, bags, documents, and other
personal belongings. The traditional process of finding lost items is often time-
consuming and ineffective. This system provides a centralized platform where users
can report lost items, report found items, and search for matching records.
The application allows users to register and log in securely. Users can submit details
of lost or found items, including item name, description, location, contact
information, and images. A search facility is provided to help users quickly find
matching items. The system also includes a police/admin module that can manage
reports, update item status (Pending, Found, Returned, or Resolved), and monitor all
activities within the platform.
To improve communication, the system automatically sends email notifications
whenever the status of a reported item is updated. This helps users stay informed
about the progress of their lost item reports. The application is developed using PHP,
MySQL, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript, providing a user-friendly and
responsive interface.
The Lost & Found Network aims to simplify the process of recovering lost
belongings, improve communication between users and authorities, and increase the
chances of successfully returning items to their rightful owners. It serves as an
efficient, secure, and reliable solution for managing lost and found information in a
digital environment.
2. MOTIVATION
The motivation behind developing the Lost & Found Network project is to address
the common problem of losing personal belongings and the difficulties faced in
recovering them. Every day, people misplace valuable items such as mobile phones,
wallets, identity cards, bags, keys, and important documents. In most cases, there is
no centralized system that allows individuals to report and search for lost and found
items efficiently.
Traditional methods of finding lost items rely on word of mouth, notices, or visiting
multiple locations, which can be time-consuming and often unsuccessful. This
inspired the development of a digital platform that connects people who have lost
items with those who have found them. The system aims to simplify the reporting and
searching process while improving communication between users and authorities.
The project also provides an opportunity to apply web development technologies
such as PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and JavaScript to solve a real-world
problem. By creating a secure and user-friendly platform, the Lost & Found Network
helps increase the chances of recovering lost belongings and promotes community
participation in returning found items to their rightful owners.
The ultimate motivation of this project is to provide a reliable, efficient, and
accessible solution that saves time, reduces stress, and improves the overall process
of managing lost and found items.

The main objectives of the Lost & Found Network project are:
1. To provide a centralized platform for reporting and managing lost and found items
efficiently.
2. To enable users to report lost items by submitting details such as item name,
description, location, contact information, and images.
3. To allow users to report found items so that the rightful owners can identify and
claim their belongings.
4. To provide an effective search mechanism that helps users quickly find matching
lost or found items.
5. To improve communication between users and authorities through automated
email notifications regarding item status updates.
6. To assist police or administrators in monitoring, verifying, and updating the status
of reported items.
7. To increase the chances of recovering lost belongings by maintaining accurate and
organized records.
8. To develop a secure and user-friendly web application using modern web
technologies.
9. To reduce the time and effort required for locating and returning lost items.
10. To create a reliable and efficient system that promotes community participation in
helping people recover their lost possessions.
[Link] SYSTEM
In the existing system, there is no dedicated centralized platform for managing lost
and found items. People generally rely on traditional methods such as informing
friends, contacting local authorities, placing notices, or posting information on social
media platforms. These methods are often unorganized, time-consuming, and provide
limited reach, reducing the chances of recovering lost belongings.
When an item is lost, individuals must manually search different locations and
communicate with multiple people to gather information. Similarly, people who find
lost items often do not have an effective way to locate the rightful owner. The
absence of a structured system results in poor coordination, delayed communication,
and inefficient record management.
Drawbacks of Existing System
No centralized database for storing lost and found item information.
Manual and time-consuming process for reporting and searching items.
Limited communication between item owners and finders.
Difficulty in tracking the status of reported items.
Lack of automated notifications and updates.
Higher possibility of losing important information and records.
Low success rate in recovering lost belongings.
Therefore, there is a need for a secure, efficient, and user-friendly system that can
streamline the process of reporting, searching, and recovering lost items.
5. MODULES
The Lost & Found Network consists of the following modules:
1. User Registration Module
Allows new users to create an account.
Stores user details securely in the database.
Prevents unauthorized access to the system.
2. User Login Module
