By the end of this self-paced module, students will be able to:
Identify and define the 8 parts of speech using the provided module.
Classify words within written sentences into their correct grammatical
categories.
Construct an original paragraph that utilizes and labels at least 5 different
parts of speech.

A. Phase 1: Motivation & Activation (The Hook)
Module Instruction: The student opens the printed packet to Activity 1:
The Broken Telegram.
The Task: They read a short paragraph where all structure words are
blanked out: "____! The ____ dog ____ barked ____ the fence..."
The Goal: Students fill in the blanks using their own words to make the
paragraph logical. This demonstrates to the student that language requires
different structural "tools" to make sense.
B. Phase 2: Core Concept Information (The Lesson)
The module presents a highly visual, easy-to-read reference matrix.
Instruction notes: For modular learners, examples must rely strictly on common
household or community items to maintain context.

C. Phase 3: Scaffolding / Guided Practice Alternative
Activity 2: Color-Coding/Symbol Matching.
Instead of a live teacher, the module provides a fully completed "Anchor
Example" sentence with clear arrows mapping each word to its part of
speech.
The Task: Below the example, students are given 3 sentences. They must
draw specific geometric symbols over the words based on a key (e.g., draw a
[Square] over Nouns, an (Oval) over Verbs, and a Line under Adjectives).
D. Phase 4: Application & Independent Practice
Activity 3: The Household Story Builder.
The Task: The student looks around their room or house and writes down 5
objects they see (Nouns). They write 3 actions they performed today (Verbs).
The Challenge: Students must weave those words into an original 4-
sentence paragraph describing their day studying from home. They must
underline and label at least 5 different parts of speech used in their writing.
E. Phase 5: Assessment & Reflection (Closure)
The Self-Check: A 10-item multiple-choice test at the back of the packet
asks students to identify underlined words from specific sentences.
The Reflection Box (Exit Ticket): A dedicated section at the bottom of the
last page asks the student: "Which of the 8 parts of speech do you find
trickiest to find in a sentence, and why?"
IV. Assessment & Grading Criteria
Formative (Non-graded): Completion check of the symbol-matching
activity when modules are returned.
Summative (Graded):
o Part A: Score out of 10 on the multiple-choice mastery check.
o Part B: Rubric grading of the 4-sentence household paragraph
(evaluated on sentence structure, accurate part-of-speech labeling, and
clarity).
