Welcome to Sophomore English! 10th Literature and Composition will help you
refine your writing skills and ability to read critically. You'll learn foundational
skills that will be vital for the rest of your high school courses.

Texts Required
Chromebook
-Various Short Stories, Poems, and Excerpts
-Persepolis

Evaluation Summative (Essays/Projects): 50%


Formative (Classwork/Quizzes): 30%

Expectations and Policies


Rework/Revision policy:
Students who score below an 85 can remediate with specific activities and teacher
conferencing. Students who score higher also have the option to gain more points with
different activities. Formative assessments must be complete and revision must occur within
two weeks of the original due date.

Late and Make-up work: (See Late Work Document on Schoology)


Late work will receive a 10% deduction for each day the assignment is late. The penalty will
not exceed a deduction of 30%.
A student who misses in-class summative assessments (tests, etc.) must schedule a time
with the teacher to make up the assessment within a two-week period.
Students must submit assignments on time to receive timely feedback.
* Absent make-up work must be completed within 5 days after you return.

Electronics policy
Students should charge their Chromebook at home and bring it to school daily. Cell phones
should be put away in the wall pockets every day upon entering class.
Plagiarism/Academic Dishonesty
In instances of plagiarism, students will receive a "Missing" score that calculates as a zero in
the gradebook. Students will have the opportunity to resubmit assignments after
conferencing with the teacher (one day for formative assignments, three days for
summatives)
Exam Dates:
Fall exams will be administered December 13-16. Spring exams will be administered May 23-
26.

Credit Recovery:
Options for credit recovery following the conclusion of the semester may be available should
credit for the course not be obtained. Requirements and criteria, including a minimum failing
grade, will be determined at the end of each semester and must be satisfied in order to
participate in credit recovery.

Office hours:
Before and after school on Monday and Wednesday 3:45-4:30. Additional times are available
by request.

Last Thoughts
Whatever your thoughts are about reading, writing, and communicating, the skills you learn in
English class are vital for your future success. If you've always "hated" reading and writing,
consider using this year as a fresh start.
