1. INTRODUCTION
Storm water management is one of the most critical components in the
planning and development of industrial and residential infrastructure. Proper
drainage planning ensures uninterrupted industrial operations, protection of
roads and buildings, prevention of flooding, and long-term environmental
sustainability.
This report presents the detailed study and hydraulic design of the proposed
storm water drainage system for a 155.73-acre Industrial Cum Colony
Development located at Village Khedimubarakpur, Tehsil Laksar, District
Haridwar, Uttarakhand.
The study has been carried out considering:
Site topography
Rainfall characteristics of Haridwar region
Land use distribution
Peak storm runoff estimation
Hydraulic capacity of drains
Self-cleaning velocity requirements
Future sustainability and flood prevention measures
The proposed drainage system has been designed to safely collect, convey,
and dispose storm runoff through a hierarchy of tertiary, secondary, and
primary drains before discharging into the proposed detention pond and final
natural outfall.

practices and hydrological principles.
3.1 Design/Study Objectives
The key objectives of the storm water drainage system are:
Efficient removal of storm runoff
Prevention of water logging
Flood protection of industrial infrastructure
Safe conveyance of runoff
Protection of roads and utilities
Sustainable rainwater management
Long-term operational reliability
3.2 Design Standards Considered

4. RAINFALL ANALYSIS
The project area lies within the high rainfall belt of Uttarakhand where
intense short-duration rainfall events are common during monsoon months.
Considering the critical nature of industrial infrastructure and future urban
development, a 25-year return period has been adopted for drainage design.
A rainfall intensity of 100 mm/hr has been considered suitable for the design
of primary storm water infrastructure.
5. RUNOFF COEFFICIENT ANALYSIS
Runoff coefficient represents the fraction of rainfall that becomes surface
runoff.
Different land uses generate different runoff characteristics:
Typical Runoff
Surface Type Characteristics
Roofs & Buildings High runoff generation
Roads & Moderate to high runoff
Pavements
Green Areas Significant infiltration

18. CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS
Based on the hydrological and hydraulic analysis carried out for the proposed
Industrial Cum Colony Development at Village Khedimubarakpur, the
following conclusions are drawn:
1. The proposed storm water drainage system is hydraulically adequate
to safely carry the estimated peak runoff generated during the design
storm condition.
2. The industrial area requires a primary RCC drain of 3.0 m width and 1.8
m water depth with 0.5 m freeboard.
3. The colony area requires a revised primary RCC drain section of 1.8 m
width and 0.5 m water depth with 0.2 m freeboard.
4. The proposed drain slopes of 1:500 for industrial area and 1:400 for
colony area are hydraulically suitable.
5. Flow velocities achieved are within acceptable self-cleaning limits and
will minimize silt deposition.
6. Provision of detention pond and sustainable drainage measures will
significantly improve flood resilience.
7. Regular maintenance and desilting are essential for long-term
performance of the drainage infrastructure.
The proposed storm water management system is therefore considered
SAFE, FUNCTIONAL, and SUITABLE for the planned industrial and residential
development.
