Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (A)
Solution:
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Type of system is 0, so initial slope is 0 dB/dec. Therefore,
the corner frequencies are
ω1 = 1 rad/sec
ω2 = 10 rad/sec
ω3 = 100 rad/sec
So, we have the initial magnitude as
M dB = 0 + 20logK= – 20 dB K = 0.1
At ω = 1 rad/sec, one zero is added, so slope changes by + 20
dB/dec and becomes + 20 dB/dec.
At ω = 10 rad/sec, one pole is added, so slope changes by –
20 dB/dec and becomes 0 dB/sec.
At ω = 100 rad/sec, two poles are added, so slope changes by
– 40 dB/dec and becomes – 40 dB/dec
Hence, we have the plot of magnitude |H(jω) |versus
frequency ω as

Thus, we get the Bode plot for the given function

(plot of |H(jω) | versus logω)
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Q. Consider the following asymptotic Bode
magnitude plot (ω is in rad/s).
Which one of the following transfer function is
best represented by the above Bode
magnitude plot?
2s
A. 1+0.5s 1+0.25s 2
4 1+0.5s
B. s 1+0.25s
2s
C.
1+2s 1+4s
4s
D. 1+2s + 1+4s
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (A)
Solution:
By looking to the plot we can say that since the initial
slope is +20 there must be a zero on the origin
If we find ω2 we can get the answer by eliminating
options
So one of the corner frequency is ω2 = 4s at this
frequency 2 poles should exist because the change in
slope is -40db
From this we can say option A satisfies the condition
(i) A zero at origin
(ii) one of corner frequency 4H term will be (1+s/4)
having 2 poles
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Q. The Bode plot of system is given, find ω1
and ω2
A. 2 and 1
B. 2 and 5
C. 5 and 3
D. 3 and 4
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (B)
Solution:
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Q. The Bode plot shown in figure represents the
transfer function
100S2
A.
1+0.1S 2
1000S2
B. 1+0.1S 3
100S2
C. 1+0.1S 5
1000S2
D.
1+0.1S 5
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (D)
Solution:
Initially plot has slope of +40 dB/dec so there must
be two zero at origin. At w = 10, slope changes to -
60 dB/dec from +40 dB/dec. So, there must be 5
pole at w = 10.
Thus, transfer function must be of the form.
kS2
which is only option C or D.
S+a 5
Now, Since 40 dB/dec line cross w = 1 at 0 dB
20log k = 60 = K ⇒ 1000
So, option D is correct.
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Q. Consider the following statements about Bode
Plot.
1) The phase angle plot in Bode diagram is not
affected by the variation in the gain of the
system.
2) Transportation log can be conveniently
handled by Bode plot.
3) Absolute and relative stability of only minimum
phase systems can be determined by Bode plot.
Which of the above statement is/are correct?
A. 1 and 2
B. 2 and 3
C. 1 and 3
D. 1, 2 and 3.
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (D)
Solution:
Phase angle plot remains unaffected, but phase margin
varies by the variation in the gain.
The log magnitude of transportation lag is 20log|e–jωt|
=0
180°
But this, lag contributes a phase angle of −ωT × ,
π
modifying phase plot.
Non-minimum phase can’t be checked for stability by
Bode plot.
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Q. Find the steady state error of the Bode
plot shown?
A. 0.521
B. 0.185
C. 0.091
D. 0.052
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (C)
Solution:
The steady-state error can be read directly from Bode
plot where constants are located at intersection of low
frequency asymptote with w=1 line. As Bode plot of
system is horizontal line, so system is type zero. Now
the gain is 20dB as magnitude 10, so steady-state error
will be 1/(1+Kp) =1/(1+10) =0.091
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Q. The Transfer function in relation to Bode
Plot given below is
25 1+0.5s
A. s2 1+0.1s
5 1+0.5s
B. s2 1+0.1s
25 1+0.2s
C. s 1+0.1s
25 1+2s
D. 2
s 1+10s
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (A)
Solution:
Sol. Starting slope of Bode Plot is –40 db/d
∴ It has term K/S2
As the initial slope intersect at w = 5
K = w2 = 25
New for corner frequency ωcf1 = 2 slope changes to –20 db/d
∴ It has zero in the transfer function having time constant

For corner frequency ωcf2 = 10, slope changes from –20 db/d
to – 40 db/d
∴ It contain in the transfer function having time constant

B. Curve 2 has large value of ξ than curve 1.
C. Both curves have same value of ξ.
D. Data insufficient
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1

A. 1
B. 4
C. 5
D. none of these
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer: (A)
Solution:
Since it is the phase plot given we can't use the slope
concept as these are nonlinear curves. So we can take
any phase angle of a given frequency as reference
and can obtain P1
Phase of transfer function

A. 5.65 dB

Solution:
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Q. The Bode plot of transfer Function given as
K
T s = 1+sT
The magnitude of error in Gain at ω = 0.5/T
is ________dB
Important Questions of Bode Plot Part-1
Answer:
Solution:
|G(s)H(s)| = |K/(1+jωT)| => |G(s)H(s)| = |K/(1+j0.5)| at
ω=0.5/T
|G(s)H(s)| = K/√1.25
Taking log on both sides
20log|G(s)H(s)| = 20logK – 20 log (1.25)1/2
20log|G(s)H(s)| = 20logK – 0.97
From the given figure at ω=0.5/T, |G(s)H(s)| = 20logK
Hence the error in gain is 0.97 dB
