INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER

Semester: IV Core credits: 4 Hours: 4

Objective:

To familiarize with computer applications and devices and to work with the
basic languages of computer software system.

Unit I: Computer features and devices 10 Hrs

Computer -Introduction, special features, basic anatomy, Hardware and software;


input and output devices; Control panel-add and remove software, key board,
mouse; phone, modem, printer and fax, internet option; Search and run options,
lcons and clip arts; Windows explorer.

Unit ll: MS-WORD – I 10 Hrs

Starting window; Parts of word window, mouse operator, key-based operator,


Menus-file, edit, view, insert, format, tools, table, help, tool bars and their icons;
Short cut menus; Entering and editing text, number and formulas

Unit lll: MS-Word – ll 10 Hrs

Creating new documents, Formatting and aligning the text; Numbering and bullets,
Spelling and grammar check; Saving and renaming the documents; Printing and
closing the documents; Creating table; Inserting pictures, header and footer, Mail
merge option

Unit IV: MS-Excel 10 Hrs

Starting MS-EXCEL, MS-EXCEL window; Menus-date, drawing tool bar,


Creating and formatting table, formulae; Chart creation; Functions –statistical
arithmetic, text, date and time, logical with examples each
Unit V: MS-Power Point 10 Hrs

Starting MS POWER POINT, Parts of MS- POWER POINT window; Menus-


insert slide shows; Creating, opening, deleting, copying, closing presentation;
Inserting pictures and tables; Organization of chart; Design template, Animation-
schemes and customs: View slides
