Weekly Internship Report

(11th April 2025 – 13th April 2025)

Intern's Name: Dhanjal Paramjeet Kaur Inderjeet Singh

Internship Week: 1
Company/Organization Name: DigiSuraksha Parhari Foundation
Mentor's Name: Mr. Shivam Mittal

Week Overview:
In the first week, my main focus was on establishing a solid foundation in cybersecurity
basics. I explored the ethical and legal rules of penetration testing, which provided
clarity on how professional security assessments are conducted responsibly and within
legal boundaries. Alongside this, I studied malware analysis techniques, both static
(examining code and structure without execution) and dynamic (running the malware
in a controlled environment to observe its behavior), which gave me a practical
perspective on how threats are identified and understood.
Another major area of study was the process of gathering and applying threat
intelligence, where I learned how data is collected, analyzed, and used to strengthen
defenses against evolving cyberattacks. Finally, I gained insights into the security
models of leading cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure, with a particular focus on
the Shared Responsibility Model.
Learning Outcomes:
• This week, I gained a deep understanding of the critical difference between
ethical hacking and cybercrime, not just on a surface level but in terms of intent,
legality, and the real-world consequences.
• I also explored the laws and regulations that govern these activities, which gave
me clarity on how professionals operate within boundaries while criminals cross
them.
• I developed skills in malware analysis, approaching it from two angles:
o Static analysis, where I examined the structure and code of malware
without executing it, learning how to identify hidden functions,
obfuscation techniques, and embedded payloads.
o Dynamic analysis, where I tested the malware in a controlled and isolated
virtual environment, carefully observing its behavior, system changes,
and network communication patterns.
• I explored the Cyber Kill Chain framework, which helped me break down and
understand how attackers move step by step from reconnaissance to exploitation,
installation, and action on objectives.
• Alongside this, I studied threat intelligence platforms, which provide proactive
defense by gathering, analyzing, and sharing data on threats, enabling
organizations to anticipate and block attacks more effectively.

1
• Lastly, I learned about the Shared Responsibility Model in cloud computing,
where both the provider and the customer have distinct but equally critical roles
in securing systems.
• I also studied common security issues in major cloud platforms like AWS and
Azure, gaining awareness of potential misconfigurations, vulnerabilities, and
risks that can occur if responsibilities are not clearly understood and managed.
Challenges Faced:
• In the first week, one of the biggest challenges I faced was dealing with the vast
amount of information coming from threat intelligence feeds.
• At first, the continuous stream of data, filled with different indicators of
compromise (IOCs), attack patterns, and reports, felt overwhelming and difficult
to process.
• This approach not only made the data easier to handle but also taught me the
importance of focusing on quality over quantity when dealing with cybersecurity
intelligence.
• Another significant difficulty was getting used to the new technical terms and
concepts.
• Topics such as static and dynamic malware analysis or the Shared Responsibility
Model in cloud security introduced terminology that was unfamiliar to me.
• Understanding these concepts required extra reading, consistent revision, and
hands-on practice before they started making sense.
• Although these challenges demanded additional effort, they ultimately helped
me
• Improved my concentration, strengthen my analytical thinking, and build a
stronger foundation in cybersecurity.
Goals for Next Week:
• In the next week, my primary goal is to deepen my understanding of
cybersecurity practices by moving from foundational knowledge toward more
applied learning.
• I plan to strengthen my grasp on malware analysis techniques, particularly by
exploring more real-world samples and practicing both static and dynamic
approaches in greater detail to identify patterns, payloads, and system
interactions more effectively.
• I aim to learn how to extract actionable insights from the available data, correlate
multiple sources of information, and apply this knowledge to anticipate potential
security incidents.
• I also intend to expand my knowledge of cloud security models, with special
attention to AWS and Azure.
• My goal is to gain a clearer understanding of how the Shared Responsibility
Model is applied in different scenarios
• By the end of the next week, I want to achieve greater technical clarity, improved
analytical ability, and a stronger practical perspective on cybersecurity.

2
• This will allow me to not only reinforce what I’ve already learned but also
prepare myself for more advanced topics in the weeks ahead.
Mentor Feedback and Suggestions:
• For the first week, the mentor provided overall positive feedback, highlighting
the enthusiasm, curiosity, and willingness to learn that the entire group
displayed. This recognition emphasized the value of maintaining an active
learning attitude right from the start.
• The mentor noted that, even though it was only the beginning stage, we had
already made steady and noticeable progress in grasping the core cybersecurity
concepts introduced during the week.
• To keep the momentum strong, the mentor encouraged all of us to maintain the
same pace and consistency in our efforts, reminding us that consistent practice
and revision are key to mastering technical skills in cybersecurity.
• Additionally, the mentor advised us to start thinking ahead about pursuing
relevant certifications in areas that align with our personal interests.
• This guidance stressed the importance of long-term planning, as certifications
would not only deepen our knowledge.
• Also significantly enhance career opportunities in the cybersecurity field.
Additional Notes:
• The topics introduced gave me a structured starting point to understand how
different aspects of security connect with one another.
• I also realized the importance of bridging the gap between theory and hands-on
practice.
• Simply learning concepts is not enough; applying them in real-world scenarios
brings deeper clarity.
• To strengthen my understanding, I plan to revisit and revise these topics
regularly, ensuring that the knowledge not only stays fresh but also becomes
second nature over time.
