Class 8 CBSE Mathematics Question Paper

Chapter: Rational Numbers | Max Marks: 80 | Time: 3 Hours

General Instructions:

1. All questions are compulsory.


2. Show all the necessary steps.
3. Use proper units wherever required.
4. Marks are indicated against each question.
5. The question paper is divided into four sections: A, B, C, and D.

Section A - (1 mark each) (1 × 8 = 8 marks)

1. Write the reciprocal of -5/7.


2. Find the additive inverse of 3/4.
3. What is the value of 0/7?
4. Are all integers rational numbers?
5. Express 0.75 as a rational number in simplest form.
6. Write a rational number which is greater than -2 and less than -1.
7. Simplify: -3/5 + 2/5.
8. Is the product of two negative rational numbers positive or negative?

Section B - (2 marks each) (2 × 6 = 12 marks)

9. Multiply: -3/4 × 2/5.


10. Represent -2/3 on the number line.
11. Find a rational number between 1/4 and 1/2.
12. Write any two rational numbers equivalent to 5/9.
13. Simplify: -3/8 - 7/8 + 5/8.
14. Divide: 2/3 ÷ -4/5.

Section C - (3 marks each) (3 × 10 = 30 marks)

15. Verify: a × (b + c) = a × b + a × c, using a = 2/3, b = 3/4, c = 5/6.


16. Arrange the following in ascending order: -3/5, 2/7, -1/2, 4/9.
17. Subtract -5/6 from 3/4.
18. Find the multiplicative inverse of: (a) -5/7 (b) 1 (c) 0.
19. Show that multiplication is distributive over addition for rational numbers.
20. Simplify and express in lowest form: (3/4 - 5/6) + (2/3 - 1/2).
21. A basket has 10 apples. 2/5 of them are rotten. How many apples are rotten?
22. What should be added to -2/7 to get 3/5?
23. Evaluate: 7/8 × (-4/7 + 2/3).
24. Find the product of the reciprocal of 5/8 and -3/10.

Section D - (4 marks each) (4 × 7 = 28 marks)

25. A rope is 7/8 metre long. If it is cut into 4 equal parts, what is the length of each part?
26. Simplify: -2/3 × (5/6 - 3/4) + 1/2.
27. Riya bought 3 books. Cost of each was 7/2 rupees. Find total and average cost.
28. Temperature at 6 AM was -7/2°C. It rose by 3/4°C every hour. Find temperature at 10 AM.
29. Out of 600 students, 3/10 are girls. Find number of boys.
30. A tank is 5/6 full. After removing 1/4 of water, how much is left?
31. Simplify and solve: (2/3 + 4/5) ÷ (7/15 - 1/3).
